Say what you will about Brett Favre announcing his retirement only to come back and play another season (with the New York Jets), and then to do it all over again (to retire and then come out of retirement and play for the Minnesota Vikings). Favre was cool enough to appear in a Sears TV commercial where he essentially made fun of himself, but after tonight's 30-23 win over the Green Bay Packers Favre becomes the only quarterback in NFL history to have beaten all 32 teams.

"I guess you have to be remembered for something," Favre joked immediately after the game.

ESPN commentator Mike Tirico went so far as to say that with the "two-headed monster" the Minnesota Vikings have with Favre throwing the ball and Adrian Peterson running the ball these guys can go all the way to the Super Bowl.

On the night, Favre threw three touchdown passes and 271 yards.

On Bodog's prop bet of who will win the 2009 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (as voted by the Associated Press), the site lists a few tight ends among the 29 guys with odds. And maybe someone like Detroit's Brandon Pettigrew will have a fine season, but betting on a tight end to win this award is a waste of money. You know how many players at that position have won the award? None.

OK, so maybe you like a few of those receivers listed to be named top offensive rookie this year. Someone like a Kenny Britt at Tennessee or Hakeem Nicks with the Giants or even Michael Crabtree with the 49ers if he ever signs a contract – that would be a good prop bet of its own, when Crabtree reports to the team. But betting on a receiver is also not a good idea. Since the AP split the rookie award into offensive and defensive in 1967, only seven receivers have taken home the hardware, with Anquan Boldin being the last in 2003.

If you are going to put money down on this prop, stick to running backs and quarterbacks. Running backs have won this award an astounding 30 times. QBs have won it even less than receivers, just four times — but three of those have come in the past five years.

With all that said, here are the three most likely candidates this year:

Mark Sanchez, QB, Jets (9/2): You know no player is going to get more hype than Sanchez will starting as a rookie in New York. In fact, not even Joe Namath started as a rookie on Opening Day for the Jets as Sanchez will. If the Jets somehow get Brandon Marshall from the Broncos in a trade, I might make Sanchez the favorite.

Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos (3/1): The former Georgia star is the Bodog favorite. It's easy to see why, since he would appear to have a starting job locked down in the Denver backfield. But he has been slowed by a knee injury this preseason and carried the ball just three times. It would seem he would start the season slow, and the Broncos could be quite bad this year.

Percy Harvin, WR, Vikings (7/1): This is the guy I'm taking. The Vikes are going to use him all over the field, just like the Florida Gators did. And with Brett Favre and not Tarvaris Jackson throwing to him now, Harvin will put up more big plays than any rookie. Add in the fact that the Vikes are an expected playoff team whereas Sanchez's Jets and Moreno's Broncos aren't, and this is the easy call.

Ever since Brett Favre made the decision to un-retire and sign with the Minnesota Vikings, you had to know he would have a big impact on betting odds.

Favre is listed at +1500 to finish the season with the most gross passing yards. This may not be the best bet to take since Favre is in a run-first offense with a serious lack of top-tier wide receivers.

Think Favre can win the MVP as he leads the Vikings towards the Super Bowl? Well then you should lay some money down on the Vikings QB since he is pegged at +2500. Hard to imagine the guy being the best player in the entire league but stranger things have happened.

The Vikings are listed at +1200 to win the Super Bowl, and thanks to the addition of Favre look for a lot of action going their way.

There should be many more fun Favre prop bets to come.

Brett Favre made his debut for the Minnesota Vikings in a preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs, going 1-for-4 for 4 yards in a 17-13 victory on Friday night.

Nothing much to get excited about, but it was his first action of the preseason.

Tarvaris Jackson has probably had to make the biggest adjustment since Favre signed. Just over a week ago, he was competing with Sage Rosenfels for the starting job. Now he’s trying to earn a spot as Favre’s backup.

He responded in impressive fashion, completing 12 of 15 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns, including a 64-yarder to Darius Reynaud.

Rosenfels appears to be the odd man out for now. He did not play against Kansas City because of an injured right ankle.

At this point we all know who will be starting in Week 1 for the Vikings, regardless of how well Jackson is playing. Favre is listed at +2500 to win league MVP.

Brett Favre (unless he retires again) will make his debut in purple tonight when the Minnesota Vikings look to build upon their 13-3 victory in Indianapolis. They will take on the Kansas City Chiefs, who lost to the Houston Texans 16-10 last week.

As we all know, Favre is the new commander off the Vikings offense after signing a two-year deal with the team. Don't get too excited about seeing Favre play that much however. It has been reported that Favre has been rusty in practice while fellow pivot Sage Rosenfels has looked very sharp.

Kansas City should play hard in their second preseason game of the season with position battles still going on – not to mention the amount of media attention that will be surrounding this preseason game.

Matt Cassel’s Chiefs debut was brief with only five pass attempts but he could see some more action against the 3-point favored Vikings.

Oh dear god. Just when you thought it was safe to assume that Brett Favre was going to keep his retired ass on the sofa this season…the old fart decides to take another kick at the can…with the Minnesota Vikings. At least that's what they're saying now.

FOXSports.com reported yesterday that Favre was on his way to St. Paul to meet with Vikings head coach Brad Childress, confirming previous suspicions that he was coming out of retirement AGAIN and signing with Minnesota. Then today we learn through numerous reports that the 39-year-old has in fact boarded a plane for St. Paul and is expected to sign a deal by tonight.

So much for thinking that you could finally sink your teeth into a Favre-less football season, hey? Will anyone give a rat's ass when he hangs it up for real?

Good grief.

Brett Favre and the New York Jets reaped the benefits of the 38-year-old's career high six touchdown passes on Sunday as they steamrolled the Arizona Cardinals 56-35.

Favre hooked up with Leveranues Coles three times and Jerricho Cotchery twice en route to 289 throwing yards and the monumental victory.

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner had difficulties hanging onto the ball as the Cardinals turned the ball over seven times as a team.

In Dallas the Washington Redskins surprised many with a 26-24 victory over Tony Romo, Terrell Owens and the Dallas Cowboys who watched in horror as Redskins receiver Santana Moss completed his third consecutive 100+ yard game.

Aaron Rogers left a Green Bay versus Tampa Bay match up with what appeared to be a shoulder injury but would eventually return, unfortunately, to no avail. The Buccaneers held on for the 30-21 victory.

Heading into the season the Chargers were pegged as one of the favorites to win Super Bowl XLIII. After two weeks of play it is hard for bettors to tell if that is still the case. Sure the Bolts don't have a win yet, but had two plays gone differently in their first two games San Diego might be undefeated and alone atop the AFC West.

Instead, the favored Chargers need a victory over the Jets, a team led by the most prolific passer in NFL history. Otherwise, they will be starting out with an 0-3 record and a huge mountain to climb.

The Jets are coming off a loss (ATS and SU) to the Pats and a lot of question marks are surrounding how the team has been using their superstar QB. Jets backers are ready to see their new savior take them to the promised land, but is the coaching staff ready to turn the keys over?

It will be interested to see if a struggling LT can help hand Favre his first career loss (5-0) against the Chargers. If not, they will have to try and become only the fourth team since 1990 to make the postseason after starting the season 0-3.
The second week of NFL football kicks off today so be sure to find yourself a comfortable couch and a laptop with which to check scores.

In the first slate at 1:05 p.m., football fans can watch the reigning Superbowl champion New York Giants take on the St. Louis Rams or perhaps watch Brett Favre's ex-team, Green Bay, try their luck against the Detroit Tigers.

Also on the early schedule is an Indianapolis Colts vs. Minnesota Vikings tilt and many more.

Baltimore and Houston fans will have to wait to see their teams compete as their Sept. 14th-scheduled game was postponed until mid-November as the result of Hurricane Ike.

Later on in the afternoon fans can catch Favre in action on his new team as the New York Jets look to defeat the New England Patriots.

Oh great, a quarterback battle between Favre and Patriots' QB Tom Brady… Oh. Right. Too soon?
