If you are a betting backer of one of the six NFL teams still without a win through four weeks, you probably are tired of losing your money on that team. And you certainly can forget about the playoffs if your club is 0-4, as just one team since 1990 that started with four losses has made it to the postseason (the 1992 Chargers).

The last winless NFL team will be…?
Get your NFL team props at Bodog.

So the folks at Bodog Sportsbook have come up with a good NFL prop on which you maybe can make some of your money back. You can wager on the site on which of those six teams will be the last to get a victory this year.

Let's take a look at the top bottom six:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+225): That the Bucs are "favored" to win this prop is a tad surprising to me. Maybe it shouldn't be. Tampa Bay has no direction at quarterback, with Josh Johnson basically holding the job until 2009 first-round pick Josh Freeman is ready. The Bucs aren't very good on offense (28th in points per game) or defense (25th in points allowed). They may not be favored in a game the rest of the season, and they certainly won't win this week at Philly. But Week 6 against Carolina is a possibility even though Tampa Bay has won just one of its past six at home against the Panthers. Other than that Week 9 off a bye against Green Bay seems a shot for Tampa Bay. I don't think the Bucs make it to Week 10 without a loss.

St. Louis Rams (+250): That St. Louis isn't the favorite to be the last winless team definitely is a surprise. It has dropped an NFL-high 14 games and managed just 24 points this year to go with the worst point differential in the league at minus-84. Unlike the Bucs, Browns or Chiefs on this list, the Rams do have an elite running back in Steven Jackson. But the Rams' QB situation might be the worst in the league, because they don't even have a future guy in place and Marc Bulger just isn't cutting it when healthy. The game everyone is pointing to for this team is Week 8 at Detroit, with the loser quite possibly getting the No. 1 pick in the draft. I say the smart money among the winless teams should go on St. Louis.

Cleveland Browns (+250): The Browns just aren't this bad. And they might get better by trading Braylon Edwards, who had become a major distraction, headache and pass-dropping nightmare. Cleveland has a winnable game this week at Buffalo, then another one in Week 7 at home against the Packers.

Kansas City Chiefs (+400): This is a young team with a lot of talent that simply needs to learn how to win – something the Chiefs have done only twice since Week 8 of the 2007 season. Matt Cassel clearly isn't comfortable in the offense yet, and the Chiefs have dropped eight in a row at home. But don't count out an upset this week against Dallas. If not, Week 9 or 10, at Jacksonville and at Oakland, respectively, could be the Chiefs' first win.

Tennessee Titans (+1200): Everything that could go wrong has for the Titans. Just a year ago they led the NFL in wins; now they actually have lost six in a row counting last year's playoffs. Kerry Collins has six picks already after having seven all last year. The defense really misses Albert Haynesworth, ranking 31st against the pass and allowing 27 points a game after giving up just 16 per last year. But there's way too much veteran pride for this to continue much longer – look for an upset of the Colts this week.

Carolina Panthers (+1600): The Panthers seem very solid at every position but the most important one: quarterback. They also have something over these other teams don't, and that's three losses instead of four. Last week's bye came at just the right time for Carolina and QB Jake Delhomme. They will beat the Redskins this week or the Bucs next, so the oddsmakers were wise to list the Panthers as the longest shots.

To summarize, the Rams are probably the most likely team to win this prop, but the Chiefs might provide the best value. K.C. does have one benefit at home, however, that St. Louis won't soon: the elements could help the Chiefs slow down and upset a better team, while the Rams play indoors.

Maybe the Atlanta Falcons are just the tonic for struggling Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme. That would be the same Delhomme who has been responsible for an incomprehensible 11 turnovers in his past two games – obviously Panther losses. The 34-year-old had four picks and a lost fumble in Carolina’s season-opening 38-10 home debacle against the Eagles on the heels of his five picks and a lost fumble in last year’s playoff loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Delhomme’s turnovers led to 24 Eagles points last week, and he was mercifully yanked after back-to-back picks in the third quarter. Apparently there is no QB controversy, although Carolina did sign former Eagle A.J. Feeley after backup Josh McCown was lost to a season-ending injury in last week’s game.

The Panthers were the NFL’s only 8-0 team in the regular season last year but have been crushed in their two home games since then. So maybe it’s good they go on the road, and maybe it’s good this week’s visit is to Atlanta, which is a 6-point NFL betting favorite on Bodog.

Last year, Delhomme threw for 589 yards and three touchdowns in two games with no interceptions against the Falcons as the teams split – he had a QB rating of 124.8 in a 24-9 Panthers victory in Charlotte and 96.9 in a 45-28 Falcons victory in Atlanta.

Falcons coach Mike Smith says he anticipates Delhomme’s “A game.”

Delhomme was far from the only problem last week. The Panthers rushed for only 86 yards and allowed the Eagles to rush for 185. That discrepancy on the ground can’t happen this week against the Falcons and Michael Turner. In that Atlanta win against Carolina last November, Turner had 117 yards rushing and four touchdowns. In the first game against Carolina, he was held to just 56 yards and didn’t reach the end zone, so it’s little wonder the Panthers won that one.

Atlanta’s defense looked stellar in last week’s 19-7 win against the Dolphins. John Abraham had two sacks and the defense forced four turnovers and held Miami to 259 total yards.

On offense, the Falcons made immediate use of new tight end Tony Gonzalez. He caught five passes for 73 yards and a touchdown – last season, Atlanta's tight ends had an NFL-low 19 receptions and only two touchdowns.

These teams have split the past 10 meetings.

After completing 15-of-19 passes for 168 yards in a 17-0 win against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger looks ready for the start of the regular season.

But Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Roethlisberger will still see some action Thursday night in the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers, even with the chance that Big Ben could get hurt.

Roethlisberger, Charlie Batch, and Mike Reilly combined for just six incompletions in 31 pass attempts versus the Bills.

The Panthers are having trouble stopping the run. Against the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins, the run defense was exposed. The Ravens rushed for only 118 yards Saturday, but it was more because they were picking apart Carolina's secondary.

After an uninspired performance against the Ravens, the starters are likely to see some work against the Steelers with time running out to correct numerous problems.

Things are not starting out well for the Carolina Panthers this season. As they prepare for their third preseason exhibition against the Baltimore Ravens at Bank of America Stadium, the Panthers have learned they'll be without linebacker Jon Beason and safety Charles Godfrey for an indefinite period. Nose tackle Maake Kemoeatu has already been lost for the season.

Backers are now hoping that an offense that features star running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, Pro Bowl receiver Steve Smith, and an outstanding line can carry the team.

They will have to do it against a Ravens defense that looks to be in midseason form already. Despite being a 2-point underdog in this one, Baltimore is 2-0 in the preseason so far, including a shutout of the Redskins in Week 1.

RB Willis McGahee has been rotating with Ray Rice, but it remains Rice who is starting at running back for now.

The Carolina Panthers are at Miami on Saturday and the Dolphins should be a small favorite when the odds come out.

Monday's exhibition opener against the New York Giants did nothing to alleviate concerns about the Panthers' run defense. In the opening quarter, Brandon Jacobs ran 22 yards to the left and backup Ahmad Bradshaw rambled 19 yards for a touchdown to the right side.

Of course it is really hard to take a lot from a preseason game where not a lot of planning is done, but still backers can't be pleased.

New York went on to beat the Panthers 24-17 on a TD on the final play.

Miami beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 12-9 on Monday night in a game that saw quarterbacks Chad Pennington and David Garrard come out after one quarter. Pennington went 4-for-7 for 38 yards and led a 35-yard drive that ended with a field goal.

Sure there are a lot of games this weekend but if you are already looking ahead to Monday Night Football on ESPN you will get to see the Carolina Panthers face the New York Giants.

The Giants enter the preseason looking to re-establish their positive vibes and to get back into the championship groove. At the same time this veteran contender will not likely want to expose key players such as quarterback Eli Manning to injury in the exhibition season.

Running back Ahmad Bradshaw should get a fair amount of carries as he is second on the depth chart. He ran for 355 yards and a 5.3 yards per carry average last year.

For Carolina, Jonathan Stewart can't seem to get healthy enough to practice with the team. The running back missed his third straight workout Thursday and has been held out of almost all contact drills when he has practiced.

The Carolina Panthers probably saved Coach John Fox’s job last with that 12-4 regular-season record and NFC South title, but Fox might be on alert again following that tank job in the home playoff game against the Cardinals. In fact, that 33-13 loss was the worst at home for a No. 2 seed in either conference since 1990. Carolina had been unbeaten at home during the regular season.

QB Jake Delhomme got a new contract this offseason despite imploding in that playoff game with five interceptions and a lost fumble. In fact, the Panthers’ management seemed to consider that game a fluke overall, because just about everyone of substance is back from last year. That includes defensive end Julius Peppers, the franchise’s all-time sacks leader. He didn’t get his long-term deal or a trade out of town but signed a one-year tender for $16.7 million.

So all seems well heading into training camp on this veteran-laden team. And with a backfield of Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams, who combined for nearly 2,400 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns last year, the Panthers again will rely on the ground game to pound opponents into submission and not ask Delhomme to win games.

Here is the Panthers’ 2009 schedule, and we’ll break it down after:

Sept. 13 vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m.

Sept. 20 at Atlanta Falcons, 1 p.m.

Sept. 28 at Dallas Cowboys, 8:30 p.m.

Week 4: Bye

Oct. 11 vs. Washington Redskins, 1 p.m.

Oct. 18 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m.

Oct. 25 vs. Buffalo Bills, 4:05 p.m.

Nov. 1 at Arizona Cardinals, 4:15 p.m.

Nov. 8 at New Orleans Saints, 4:05 p.m.

Nov. 15 vs. Atlanta Falcons, 1 p.m.

Nov. 19 vs. Miami Dolphins, 8:20 p.m.

Nov. 29 at New York Jets, 1 p.m.

Dec. 6 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m.

Dec. 13 at New England Patriots, 1 p.m.

Dec. 20 vs. Minnesota Vikings, 8:20 p.m.

Dec. 27 at New York Giants, 1 p.m.

Jan. 3 vs. New Orleans Saints, 1 p.m.

Strength of schedule: 2nd (opponents combined to go 151-104-1, .592, in 2008)

Projected record: 9-7

Bodog over/under total: 8 1/2

Bodog odds to win Super Bowl XLIV: 22/1

The schedule this year ranks among the toughest because the NFC South faces the deep AFC East and NFC East this season. But at least Carolina’s division foes do the same. It’s probably not realistic to expect the Panthers to go 8-0 at home again this year, being as they were the only club unbeaten at home in 2008. In fact, every NFL team but four had two home losses last season.

I can see the Panthers starting the season with a home win over the Eagles, as Carolina has won two season openers in a row. However, losing those next two road games is probable. Atlanta beat Carolina by 17 at home last year, and Dallas should be a Super Bowl contender. So that’s 1-2 entering the bye week.

However, I like Carolina to sweep through October. Yes, the club is just 1-7 against Washington, but the Skins look to be an average team yet again. The Panthers were clobbered in Tampa last year but are 5-1 there under Fox. And Buffalo might put up a decent fight but won’t win in Charlotte. So that’s 4-2.

Those back-to-back road games against strong offensive teams in Arizona and New Orleans look like losses to me despite Carolina winning at the Superdome in last year’s finale. I again like Carolina to hold serve at home in the next two games and win a close game in potential winter weather at the Jets to enter December at 7-4 and in decent shape in the NFC South again.

On Dec. 6, the Panthers will sweep the rebuilding Bucs but then go into a three-game losing streak against Super Bowl contenders New England, Minnesota (the one home loss this year) and the Giants. At 8-7, that season finale against New Orleans again could very well have both division and wild-card ramifications as it did last year. Carolina should hold serve to finish 9-7.

Will 9-7 and maybe a playoff spot be enough for Fox to keep his job? I say no, that this team must win at least one postseason game or Bill Cowher is on the sideline in 2010.

That’s the big question for Saturday night’s NFC Divisional Round matchup between the Cards (10-7 SU and ATS) and the Carolina Panthers (12-4 SU, 9-6-1 ATS).

Arizona has unleashed RB Edgerrin James for 173 yards rushing over the past two contests, both in victory; Carolina has a poor run defense that allows nearly 120 yards per game on the ground.

The last time these two teams met in Charlotte, the Panthers (-5) held James to 17 yards on seven carries in a 27-23 Week 8 win. Arizona still got paid; now Carolina is a 10-point chalk (-105) for the rematch. The ‘Cats are going to need more than just solid run defense to cover on Saturday. Perhaps the best news for Carolina supporters is that Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (hamstring) is only expected to play on a “limited” basis if at all.

In his first NFL playoffs since helping the Rams win the 2001 Super Bowl, QB Kurt Warner came out big and helped the Arizona Cardinals hold off the Atlanta Falcons 30-24 before a home team that hadn't hosted a playoff game in 61 years.

Opening the afternoon with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald, he then connected with Anquan Boldin (photo above) on a sweet 71-yard scoring play. On the day, Warner was 19-of-32, 13-for-17 in the second half, for a total of 271 yards.

"I hope this gives us a lot of confidence," Warner told reporters after the game. "I knew we thought we could win this game. Hopefully we can parlay this into some more confidence and know we can win wherever we have to go."

The Cardinals get a few days to rest up before playing the Carolina Panthers (who were told by their coach to "rest, stay out of trouble and watch football on TV" this weekend), or the defending Super Bowl champions the NY Giants.
