It also featured two big names in the Light Heavyweight division fighting for their very UFC lives. But the event turned out to be a disappointment, due to its slow fights and lack of knockouts.

In the main event Anderson Silva defended his Middleweight belt with a five-round unanimous decision over Thales Leites. The champion fought a smart fight against a dangerous opponent, much to the displeasure of the crowd and his fans who have become spoiled watching him destroy opponents in a round and a half over the last few years.

UFC 97 will be known for the day that Chuck Liddell’s career in the Octagon ended after a much more motivated Mauricio Rua knocked him out in the first round. Liddell will have to fight outside the UFC if he wants to continue to compete.

The Bodog Sportsbook has all your UFC odds.

Everyone seems to think that Chuck Liddell has had a meltdown. The truth is that Chuck Liddell has been exposed for who he really is. He was a champion and UFC poster boy for years, but the world’s best fighters were not in the UFC for most of his career. Pride Fighting was where the best fighters were until UFC owners bought out the promotion and brought in the best talent. Since then Chuck has not had the same caliber of opponents he used to once enjoy.

He made an appearance in a Pride tournament in 2003 and was beaten by Quinton Jackson so bad his corner threw in the towel. Now that his opponents are better, his one-dimensional style is being exposed almost every fight. I don’t see Chuck Liddell coming back into title contention. He’ll just fight guys that his striking style stacks up well against.

Last night underdog Forrest Griffin beat Quinton "Rapage" Jackson in UFC 86 here in Las Vegas. The fight went the full five rounds and Griffin won by decision making him the new UFC light-heavyweight champion.

Griffin had a rough first round but went on to gain momentum in the second by working Jackson's leg. Not unlike the time he worked the leg of an innocent employee of Raw Vegas and accidentally broke it.

Anyway, Griffin went five rounds with one of the toughest fighters in the world and he still managed to get to the the Rio in time for the start of Day 1D of the WSOP. He looks like he took a few shots but you should see the other guy, well… the other guy's leg that is.

Also playing in today's WSOP Main Event is Mixed Martial Arts legend Chuck Liddell. Liddell is currently sitting at the WSOP TV Table along with WSOP bracelet gobbling fiend Phil Hellmuth.

WSOP Day 1D is typically the day of the poker pro and this year is no excpetion. So far out in the field we've seen Johnny Chan, Tod and Doyle Brunson, Andy Block, Scott Clements, Allen Cunningham, Annie Duke, Shannon Elizabeth, Antonio Esfandiari, Chris Ferguson, Phil Gordon, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Laak, Howard Lederer, Dario Minieri, Michael Mizrachi, Carlos Mortensen, Men Nguyen, Tom Schneider, Mark seif, Jennifer Tilly and of course Bodog poker pros David Williams and Jean-Robert Bellande. Quite the field isn't it?

Stay tuned to the Beat for more WSOP news and updates here in Day 1D of the WSOP.

"The Iceman" has been put on ice. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell (21-5) has been forced to withdraw from the main event of UFC 85: Liddell vs. Evans, scheduled for June 7 in London, England.

"Unfortunately, Chuck Liddell tore his right hamstring during training last week," says UFC president Dana White. "Being the warrior that he is, he still wanted to fight, which is the reason why everyone in the world loves him, but I wouldn't let anyone fight with his leg looking that way. Let him heal and come back and fight when he is 100 percent."

Liddell was a -265 favorite in the Bodog Sportsbook.

This is the second time the main event of UFC 85 has been changed due to an injury. Originally, Liddell was scheduled to face Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (16-3). Unfortunately, "Shogun" was forced off the card when he re-injured his knee.

With Rua out, Rashad Evans (11-0-1) was brought in. He was a +205 underdog against "The Iceman". Now the UFC will be looking for another fighter to fight Evans in June.

Bet on UFC odds in the Bodog Sportsbook. All lines subject to change.

Internet street-fighter Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (2-0) is overrated according to former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell (21-5).

Speaking with The Sun, Liddell says that Kimbo doesn't deserve the admiration he's getting from mixed martial arts fans and promoters.

"Kimbo's one of those guys who doesn't have any ground game. He's training and he's learning but he's been built up as such a big star and that's the thing that bothers me," he says. "People talk about him like he's the next great thing when he really hasn't done anything."

Since switching from illegal street fights to MMA, Kimbo has beaten Bo Cantrell (10-11) and David "Tank" Abbott (9-14) by knockout. Liddell is not impressed by either fight or by the footage of Kimbo's street fights on YouTube.com.

"He's been built up because of the Internet and him beating a bunch of guys on the street," he jokes. "I could make some impressive knockout videos too if you let me walk outside and just punch people and knock them out."

"We can make a highlight reel tomorrow and go round beating people up and talk about it," Liddell continues. "We could just go up to people and start dropping them – wow!"

"The Iceman" is scheduled to face Rashad Evans (11-0-1) at UFC 85: Liddell vs. Evans on June 7 in London, England. Currently, he is a -265 favorite to win in the Bodog Sportsbook. Evans is a +205 underdog.

Kimbo's next fight will headline the first episode of EliteXC Saturday Night Fights onMay 31 on CBS. His opponent has not yet been named.

Bet on MMA fights in the Bodog Sportsbook.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell (21-5-0) is on a quest to regain his 205-pound belt, and while a fight against Rashad Evans (11-0-1) is the next step towards his goal, "The Iceman" is already looking to bigger things in the future.

Speaking with Fight Network Radio, Liddell says that, after he wins back the light heavyweight title, he's willing to move up and fight for the heavyweight belt as well.

"That's a possibility if they want to do it," Liddell explains. "If they want to set it up. I'm willing to do it. I would like to get my title back at light heavyweight and then talk about moving up. I would definitely like it to happen before the end of the year."

If Liddell beats Evans, he could earn a shot at the winner of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (29-6-0) and Forrest Griffin (15-4-0) who are scheduled to fight for the 205-pound belt in July.

Liddell has already beaten UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture (16-8-0) twice but, with Couture and the UFC locked in a court battle over his employment contract, a more likely opponent for "The Iceman" above 205-pounds is interim champion Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira (31-4-1).

UFC heavyweight champion Randy "The Natural" Couture (16-8-0) isn't the only one who wants a piece of Fedor Emelianenko (27-1-0).

Now, hearing the news that Emelianenko might soon be a free agent, former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell (21-5-0) is getting in line for his shot at the top-ranked Russian fighter.

"Fedor’s someone I want to fight because he’s someone I match up well with," he tells The Sun. "He’s a ground and pound guy that doesn’t have a great shot. He doesn’t have a great game plan. I think I could take him. I think I match up well with him. As far as I know he’s never knocked anyone out from his feet and I think he’d have a hard time taking me down.”

If Liddell hopes to fight Fedor, he'll have to make the move up to heavyweight but "The Iceman" says that isn't a problem. "A move to heavyweight is a possibility for me," he says.

"If I’m done with everything at light heavyweight I might move up. The top guys up there aren’t all that big heavyweights. Randy [Couture] was but I knocked him out twice."

Former top-ranked Brazilian Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (16-3-0) was originally scheduled to face Liddell, but a knee injury sustained in training forced him to withdraw from the event, leaving Liddell without an opponent.

"The Iceman" is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Rua's former team mate, Wanderlei Silva (31-8-1) at UFC 79: Nemesis in December, while Evans is returning after a split decision win over Michael Bisping (14-1-0) at UFC 78: Validation in October 2007.

Previously, Evans fought to a controversial draw with Tito Ortiz (15-5-1) in July.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell (21-5-0) has signed his next fight.

Saturday, June 14, in London, England, Liddell will face Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (16-3-0), a fighter once ranked as the top light-heavyweight in the world.

"I think it’s going to be a great fight," Liddell tells The Fight Network. "I think he’s going to strike, he’s going to wrestle a little bit and he’s going to mix it up. It should be fun, and it should make for an interesting fight."

Liddell is coming off a unanimous decision win over Rua's former team mate, Wanderlei Silva (31-8-1) at UFC 79: Nemesis on Dec. 29. In his first UFC fight in September, "Shogun" suffered a loss by choke to Forrest Griffin (15-4-0).

Rua owns a pair of first-round wins over current UFC champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (29-6-0), the only fighter to defeat Liddell twice, but Liddell's coach John Hackleman doesn't think that will matter when Rua and Liddell meet each other in London.

"I don’t really think that plays a factor in MMA," he says, "because there’s so many factors in the sport. This guy beating this guy doesn’t mean that guy can beat this guy, so I don’t think ‘Shogun’ beating ‘Rampage’ has anything to do with anything."

UFC 85 will be the first fight in the U.K. for "The Iceman".
