The Florida Gators won a classic BCS Championship game on Thursday night, 24-14 over the Oklahoma Sooners (+5 at kick-off); Tim Tebow’s jump pass to David Nelson with just over three minutes left secured the win and the cover for Florida.

The Texas Longhorns might think they could have done better, but they’ll have to settle for their thrilling 24-21 Fiesta Bowl victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes (+8). Texas squashed a furious OSU comeback with a 26-yard TD pass from Colt McCoy to Quan Cosby with just 16 seconds left on the clock.

The Utah Utes also have reason to call themselves No. 1 after riding the Alabama Crimson Tide (-9.5) 31-17 at the Sugar Bowl. But the best bowl performance: Four TDs and zero picks for USC Trojans QB Mark Sanchez in a 38-24 drubbing of the Penn State Nittany Lions (+10) at the Rose Bowl.

Now, Parrish is the head coach just in time to face the Golden Hurricane in the same bowl game tonight.
The 3-point underdog Cardinals are led by quarterback Nate Davis, the MAC offensive player of the year, and tailback MiQuale Lewis, who has already set single-season school marks with 1,701 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns.

The Cardinals are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 non-conference games and had won 12 straight before losing to Buffalo in the MAC title game.

The key to Ball State pulling off the upset will be what Parrish learned from studying Tulsa's no-huddle system. Thanks to QB David Johnson and RB Tarrion Adams, Tulsa ranks second nationally in total offense and scoring offense.

That assignment is to Beat the Ball State Cardinals (12-1 SU, 9-3 ATS) at the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala. Tulsa is a 3-point chalk, and for good reason: This is the most dangerous offense in the entire FBS.

The Hurricane were first in total offense this year at 565.1 yards per game, and in the era of modern college football, offense wins championships. Ball State is a worthy opponent, but No. 11 in offense at 459.4 yards per game.

Ball State is also going to be distracted by its recent coaching change. The Cardinals are making the switch from Brady Hoke, who left for San Diego State, to former offensive co-ordinator Stan Parrish. Conversely, Tulsa coach Todd Graham has signed a new 10-year contract. That continuity will keep his players happy and motivated to win Tuesday night.

The Buckeyes are used to facing top teams in a BCS game. They'll be playing in a BCS bowl for the seventh time in the 11-year history of the system, tying USC and Oklahoma for the most appearances.

Since Terrelle Pryor became the starting quarterback over senior Todd Boeckman Ohio State went 8-1 to finish their season. Pryor completed 62.2 percent of his passes for 1,158 yards and threw 12 TDs and four interceptions over those nine games.

The Buckeyes were eighth in total defense, allowing 279.3 yards per game, as well as holding opponents to the sixth-fewest passing yards per game in the nation.

As 9-point favorites (-115), the Longhorns are obviously expected to win this game. And they will.

Ohio State is no pushover, but the ‘Horns are better equipped at virtually every position. Texas QB Colt McCoy (32 TDs, seven INTs) was a Heisman candidate this year; Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor (12 TDs, four INTs) is a redshirt freshman. The Texas defense held opponents to 18.6 points per game despite playing in the explosive Big 12. And kicker Hunter Lawrence (9-for-11) is one of the top kickers in college.

Texas will air out the ball in the cozy confines of the U of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. Ohio State’s ground game would have had more of an advantage had this game been played outdoors. Maybe next year.

So the only potential consolation on New Year's Day for the 8.5-point favored Bulldogs will be escaping with a 10-win season by beating the Michigan State Spartans in the Capital One Bowl.

Both teams have 9-3 records, but the Spartans can be proud of achieving the program’s best season this decade while the Bulldogs might be disappointed by the Florida city they ended up visiting for bowl season.
While Javon Ringer carries the Michigan State offense, Georgia is more balanced with a potential NFL first-rounder under center in Matthew Stafford. Stafford topped the SEC with 3,209 passing yards, throwing for 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The only meeting between these programs was Georgia’s 34-27 win in the 1989 Gator Bowl. Get your College Bowl odds in the Bodog Sportsbook.

Getting up early for the 11 a.m. Eastern start (on ESPN, with live betting) are the Iowa Hawkeyes (8-4 SU, 7-4 ATS) and the South Carolina Gamecocks (7-5 SU, 5-5-1 ATS).

Iowa came into the 2008 season with some buzz as a Big East contender, but started conference play with three straight losses, including a home game against Northwestern (+9.5). The Hawkeyes earned some redemption in Week 11 by dealing Penn State (-7.5 away) its only loss in a thrilling 24-23 final.

There was no redemption for South Carolina this year. The Gamecocks lost their last two games at Florida (-21) and Clemson (-1) to take some of the steam out of Steve Spurrier’s crew. That leaves South Carolina as a 4-point puppy with Iowa pulling in about three-quarters of the betting action.
