Only the Dallas Cowboys could create drama when it comes to a scoreboard.

A conference call was held Tuesday to discuss the giant HD board at Cowboys Stadium.

Logistical matters, such as whether to reset the clock, will be decided before Saturday night’s preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Tennessee Titans punter A.J. Trapasso hit the video board, which is 90 feet above the playing field, in an exhibition game last week. It was the only one of 14 punts in the game that hit the video board, forcing a replay of the down.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reiterated again Tuesday on the radio that he does not intend to move the structure.

Monday afternoon, Niners coach Mike Singletary made the expected announcement that Shaun Hill is going to be the team's No. 1 man behind center, with Alex Smith as No. 2.

Dallas is a 7-point favorite on Saturday night.

In case you were too busy grilling meat and spending time outside, here are a few things that went down over the weekend in the NFL.

Playing a game with the Chicago Bears for the first time at Soldier Field, Jay Cutler was sharp from the outset Saturday night in leading his team to a 17-3 victory over the New York Giants.

Pittsburgh’s first-team offense scored a touchdown without Ben Roethlisberger and the Washington Redskins managed to get their first points of the preseason in a 17-13 victory.

Derek Anderson looked worthy of being a No. 1 quarterback for the Cleveland Browns and rookie Matthew Stafford hardly looked like a No. 1 pick for the Detroit Lions. Cleveland won 27-10 as Stafford threw an interception on Detroit’s first play and went 5-of-13 for 34 yards.

Green Bay’s new-look defense forced turnovers on three of Buffalo’s first four possessions as the Packers won 31-21.

The Tennessee Titans will head to Dallas to square off against the 3-point favored Cowboys in a nationally televised preseason game on FOX.

The Titans are 2-0 in preseason so far, after wins against the Bills and then last week at home against the Buccaneers. In that game, QB Vince Young was 9-of-14 for 131 yards and a touchdown, while starter Kerry Collins was just 4-of-9 for 37 yards and two interceptions.

The Cowboys are 0-1 after getting crushed by the Raiders 31-10 in Oakland last Thursday. The good news for Dallas backers is that Tony Romo got off to a good start, completing 4-of-6 passes for 36 yards and a touchdown. WR Sam Hurd also had a productive night, hauling in five passes.

Betting trends favor Tennessee in this matchup, as the Titans are 13-4 ATS as a road underdog of 7 points or less.

San Francisco 49ers (+5500) – RB Thomas Clayton is expected to miss the season after what was initially diagnosed as a torn ACL in his right knee. Clayton sustained the injury in the fourth quarter of the 49ers’ exhibition opener against the Broncos.

Football is back in Dallas, but the Cowboys will start the 2009 season without one of their main weapons on offense.

Terrell Owens, of course, was released by the Cowboys in the offseason and picked up by the Buffalo Bills.

The Cowboys will play their first game of the preseason on the road vs. the Oakland Raiders, and Bodog has made Tony Romo and the Cowboys a 1-point road underdog on Thursday.

The Raiders will be keeping a close watch on their QB battle between Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye. Frye probably has the upper hand, but with Jeff Garcia scheduled to return soon from injury one of these two with NFL experience could find their reps dramatically reduced.

For the Cowboys, Roy Williams is starting to get on the same page with Romo. Williams is in the best shape of his career, but don't expect him to fully fill Owens’ shoes.

You would have to be a seriously daft Dallas Cowboys fan if you were willing to pay $90 for a zero-topping pizza. That's right: $90 for a large pizza that has NO toppings. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Bread, sauce and cheese. That's about all you're getting for $90.

Word on the street has it that if you wanted to rent a suite at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium you'd have to fork over $800,000 for the one-year lease. But that does NOT come with tickets to the game or other events held there…nor does it cover any food or drink costs. You'll have to buy those separately.

But apparently you CAN order a large pizza for your group of friends to enjoy in your rented suite, but the basic pizza pie starts at $90 and toppings will cost you extra.

Let's see now… Over at the Bodog Sportsbook they've got the Dallas Cowboys at 7/1 odds to win the 2009/10 NFC Championship and 15/1 odds to win Super Bowl XLIV. I'd say the Cowboys have a better chance of winning me over as their No. 1 fan (which AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN) than they do of getting me to EVER pay $90 for a stupid pizza, toppings or NO toppings. Ever. As in never in my life.

The Cowboys open training camp today and it will no longer be a cakewalk for players.

Reports say it will be a meaner, tougher, and more disciplined Cowboys training camp than in past years.

But of course, coming off the most embarrassing and underachieving season in franchise history will make you change.

The Cowboys went from Super Bowl or bust to not even making the playoffs last year.

Coach Wade Phillips, whose laid-back demeanor and soft ways sparked a soft label, promised change.

He said he is still going to be true to himself. But he will be more demanding.

We will see about that one. Phillips knows that if they don’t get to playoffs and make a run that this will be his last year in Dallas. He is in the final year of his contract and there have been no talks of an extension.

Camp ends Aug. 19.

The hottest coaching seat in the NFL for the 2009 season has to be in Big D, with Wade Phillips almost assuredly facing a win-big-or-be-gone fate. The reasons for this are threefold:

* Terrell Owens, who was cast as the main fall guy for last year's team finishing 9-7 and missing the playoffs, was shipped out. This is supposed to make Tony Romo a better player, as he won't feel the need to force the ball to a pseudo-open T.O. a dozen times a game any longer. And it certainly should help what was a fractured locker room.

* Phillips already is in the final year of his contract, although there's technically an option year for 2010. Already there have been rumors that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is infatuated with getting Mike Shanahan on the sideline next year. Frankly, anything short of a Super Bowl probably means Phillips won't be back.

* Jones wants to make a big-time splash in the team's first season in that $1.2 billion ultra-modern stadium, which still doesn't have a corporate sponsor. Think the Cowboys winning a Super Bowl might help with sponsorship?

Certainly injuries can partly be to blame for last year's record, but Romo took a step back when he was healthy and there was simply no excuse for the team quitting in that 44-6 season-ending loss to the Eagles with the playoffs on the line.

If everyone's head is on straight, the talent is still there on both sides of the ball. Certainly there is a question at receiver, where Dallas is hoping Roy Williams can magically turn into a No. 1 receiver after disappearing when acquired from Detroit last year. I still expect the team to sign for or trade for a veteran receiver, however. A full season of multi-talented running back Felix Jones, who didn't play after Week 6 last year due to injury, should help the passing game, running game and on special teams. And remember the Cowboys discovered RB Tashard Choice as a nice complement to Marion Barber late last year.

On defense, the departures of Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson are probably addition by subtraction. And DeMarcus Ware might now be the best defensive player in all of football. Also look for linebacker Anthony Spencer to have a breakout year.

Here is the Cowboys' 2009 schedule, and we'll break it down after:
Sept. 13 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m.
Sept. 20 vs. New York Giants, 8:20 p.m.
Sept. 28 vs. Carolina Panthers, 8:30 p.m.
Oct. 4 at Denver Broncos, 4:15 p.m.
Oct. 11 at Kansas City Chiefs, 1 p.m.
Week 6: Bye
Oct. 25 vs. Atlanta Falcons, 4:15 p.m.
Nov. 1 vs. Seattle Seahawks, 1 p.m.
Nov. 8 at Philadelphia Eagles, 8:20 p.m.
Nov. 15 at Green Bay Packers, 4:15 p.m.
Nov. 22 vs. Washington Redskins, 1 p.m.
Nov. 26 vs. Oakland Raiders, 4:15 p.m.
Dec. 6 at New York Giants, 4:15 p.m.
Dec. 13 vs. San Diego Chargers, 4:15 p.m.
Dec. 19 at New Orleans Saints, 8:20 p.m.
Dec. 27 at Washington Redskins, 8:20 p.m.
Jan. 3 vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m.

Strength of schedule: 11th (opponents combined to go 131-123-2, .516, in 2008)
Projected record: 10-6
Bodog over/under total: 9
Bodog odds to win Super Bowl XLIV: 15/1

Bodog's over/under total seems a bit low with those generous Super Bowl odds (Dallas is behind only the Giants, Eagles and Vikings in the NFC). And I do believe the Cowboys should exceed nine wins, although the Dallas Morning News beat writer picked them to finish 9-7.

I think the Cowboys get off to a 3-0 start through September. The Bucs will be one of the worst teams in the league, and it's hard to imagine Dallas blows the opening game in the new stadium in prime time of Week 2 against the G-Men. Then the Cowboys get a second straight prime-time home game and will beat the Panthers.

Get all your football futures betting at Bodog.

I don't think Dallas can win those back-to-back road games against AFC West clubs to open October but also don't see them getting swept. Let's say the Cowboys lose at Denver, which is always a tough place to play, but beat K.C. Dallas will beat a good Atlanta team to enter November at 5-1.

After beating Seattle, the Cowboys will then drop two straight to the Eagles and Packers. We all know what they did last year in Philly. Dallas did win last year in Lambeau, but that was its first time ever doing that, although Tony Romo is 2-0 against Green Bay. It might be plenty cold by Nov. 15. Look for a 2-0 finish to the month with the quick turnaround on Thanksgiving against the lousy Raiders.

If Dallas does enter December at 8-3 that would seem to put it in great shape for the NFC East title, but December has been this franchise's killer month. The Cowboys have not had a winning record in December since 1996 and were 1-3 last season. Since 1997, the Cowboys have gone 15-33 in their last four games of seasons. With that said, I see them winning at the Saints in a shootout and beating the Eagles in the regular-season finale for their lone two wins in the final five to end up 10-6.

That should be enough to get a wild-card spot at a minimum, and I expect Dallas to earn at least one playoff win this season for the first time since '96. A Super Bowl run is possible if Romo figures out how to play in December and January (he is 5-10 in those months) and if one of those young receivers emerges or Dallas finds an established pass-catcher via other methods.

Here are 10 reasons to like Tony Romo and the Cowboys.

1. When he is healthy, Romo is one of the more exciting quarterbacks to watch.

2. You never know what Jerry Jones is going to do, and for that reason they are always in the spotlight.

3. With Romo, there is always the chance that Jessica Simpson will be lurking around even though they have split.

4. They did make backers some money last year going 9-7 ATS.

According to FoxSports.com, perpetual cry baby Terrell Owens has been released by the Dallas Cowboys. It didn't help matters that Owens was constantly bickering with quarterback Tony Romo and tight end Jason Witten. (Seems Romo was making more passes to Witten and leaving Owens high and dry. Boo hoo.)

Last spring Owens told the Dallas Morning News that he "definitely" wanted to finish his NFL career in Dallas and enter the Hall of Fame as a Cowboy. I'm thinking that if he's hoping to get into the Hall of Fame he'd better find himself another team — and fast. (Can you imagine Owens back in Philadelphia? Or how about in Oakland? The New England Patriots might be a good fit, too.)

Currently in the Bodog Sportsbook the odds on the Dallas Cowboys to win the 2009 Super Bowl are 10/1 without Terrell Owens.
