After a producer attempted to extort Letterman for $2 million, Letterman was forced to come clean about a plethora of affairs he'd had with female staff members.

Letterman  said, "My wife Regina, she has been horribly hurt by my behavior. And when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it. At that point there is only two things that can happen, either you are going to make some progress and get it fixed or you're gonna fall short and perhaps not get it fixed. So let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me."

A few women have come forward claiming they've bedded 62-year-old Letterman, including Stephanie Birkitt and Holly Hester.

A source told the National Enquirer, "If the tape makes its way into the criminal case, it'll explode his marriage to smithereens. They released a scathing press release that said: "Quinnipiac University says it will tell staff in charge of placing interns to be extra careful when sending students to the studio to work for Letterman, 62, who is currently at the center of a blackmail scandal over his alleged affair with one of his former interns. Due to recent circumstances we will have a discussion with those in charge of placing our interns at the David Letterman show in the future. We will diligently oversee this internship program to ensure that our interns are out of harm’s way.”

Letterman has publicly apologized for his indiscretions and has emphasized that his dallying with staff is "in the past." The press release doesn't mention that the affairs Letterman had with his staff were consensual. By them saying that their interns were placed "in harms way" is implying that the interns were not willing participants. They act like Dave's running around the offices screwing interns at random.

After his assistant, Stephanie Birkitt came forward, now a new woman has emerged. Holly Hester told TMZ that she had slept with Letterman in the 90's when she was a student at NYU and working her first internship on television.

Hester claims that Letterman called her up and asked her to the movies, which would begin a slew of many secret dates, she alleges. She said, "I was madly in love with him at the time. I would have married him. He was hilarious."

Radaronline reports, "Birkitt and Letterman slept together for a period of time before he married his girlfriend Regina had their son Harry."

Birkitt lived with the accused blackmailer, Joe Halderman, but has long since moved out of his home. She is reportedly “mortified" that Halderman is using her affair with Letterman to blackmail him.

Letterman said that he gave the perpetrator a fake check and that he's been taken into custody.

Letterman said, “This morning, I did something I’ve never done in my life. I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury.  I had to tell them all of the creepy things that I had done. The creepy stuff was that I have had sex with women who work for me on this show.  My response to that is, yes I have. Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would."

The thing that was odd was that Letterman, who spews 90% sarcasm, is that he didn't begin the monologue by warning the audience that he was about to say something serious – so it was like everyone was waiting for the punchline – or wondering whether or not he was joking.

The two joked initially, with  Letterman asking Obama about Jimmy Carter’s assertion that racism is behind recent political attacks, Obama responded, “It’s important to realize that I was actually black before the election.”

Obama then turned the conversation to health care and the public outcry over it.

"This is not untypical," he said. "One of the things you sign up for in politics is folks yell at you."

"When it gets done – like when social security got done and when medicare got done, people are going to realize this was the right way to go.

"Your job is more difficult that my job," Letterman said. "That's what I've learned here tonight."

When Letterman asked Anne about Laffoon, she rolled her eyes, telling Letterman she was annoyed at her "lazy ass" ex and his new aspirations to coach kids' soccer. She also wondered aloud why, even though they're divorced, he'd still want to see her.
