The $100,000 Real Good Deal Stakes (Gr.1) will have the Fusaichi Pegasus gelding Royal Punisher as the morning line favorite (9-2). The promising 3-year-old set blazing fractions in his debut and went on to a 2 1/2-length win over Star Redeemer in his maiden at Hollywood Park on July 11.

Royal Punisher kept on rolling to the easy win over Star Redeemer, who was at his best to win. Royal Punisher earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 98 in that race.

The main competition should come from M One Rifle (5-2). He is also coming off a maiden win at Hollywood Park. Another horse, Escalon, won as a two-year-old but has come up short in his third year. He debuted as a winner last summer and hasn’t raced since December.

The undefeated filly Zenyatta will make her anticipated return to the track in the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (gr. I) on Aug. 9. She recently had a fast five-furlong breeze in one minute flat on Del Mar's main track Aug 2. She looks every bit as good as she did last year, and betting against her at this point would not be wise. Until she shows some sort of weakness in her huge stride she’s likely to continue to destroy any who try to test her.

She worked with another Doug O’Neill horse called Champagne Eyes who looks ready to try to challenge the undefeated Zenyatta. Champagne Eyes worked a good six furlongs in 1:14 2/5 and five in 1:00 3/5 for Julio Canani. Lethal Heat has worked five furlongs in :57 4/5 and looks poised to score the upset if everything can come together at the right time.

Two-year-old fillies will be put to the test on Aug. 7 in the 6½ furlong Sorrento Stakes on Polytrack at Del Mar. The race has attracted a field of 10 fillies and headlines the Del Mar twilight card with a post time of 6:30 p.m. PDT.

Necessary Evil will be the morning line favorite and will draw top weight of 123 lbs. In her last race the undefeated filly beat the boys at the Hollywood Juvenile Championship (gr. III). She will break from Post 9 and will be ridden by Joel Rosario.

Her biggest competition will come from the David Hofmans-trained Well Deserved. She has a record of 2-1-0 in three starts and will break from the rail on Friday. Necessary Evil and Well Deserved have the only stakes wins in the field of 10. Camille C, Laura's Pleasure, and Miss Heather Lee are all coming off maiden wins.

The Grade II $150K San Clemente Handicap for three-year-old fillies is set to be run on August 1 at Del Mar Race Track. The one-mile turf race will feature Hollywood Oaks winner Carlsbad making her turf debut. She will be breaking from the #4 post and will be giving up between two and five pounds to her nine opponents. She’s won six of seven races and will again be the easy favorite on Saturday.

The other horses to watch for include Californian-bred Strawberry Tart, who has won back-to-back stakes races since switching to turf. She overcame 13-1 odds in her last win in the Manhattan Beach at six furlongs on June 5. The dark horse in this field would have to be Kaweah Princess, who has a three-race win streak for Jerry Hollendorfer. Another decent pick would be Doug O’Neill’s Acting Lady; she finished second in the Hollywood Oaks.

Wednesday is set for the $100K Graduation Stakes for two-year-old Californian-bred race horses at Del Mar racetrack. Mike Harrington has three of the eight horses in the five and half furlong race. Grace Upon Grace is the easy favorite at odds of 9-5. The second favorite, Roman Counsel, comes in at 7-2 against a field of seven other horses. Not to be overlooked is Bertran Hill, who is getting 4-1 to win and could easily win this race on Wednesday.

Three horses are getting 8-1 on winning the race – Wolf Tail, Sweet Tigger and Daylight Storm. Ritzville gets 10-1 while the longest shot in the field, Dance Marino, gets 15-1. The odds make it look like it’s a two-horse race at this point, but don’t underestimate any two-year-old horses that could come into their own at any time at this point of their racing development.

If you want to bet on some races at Del Mar or Saratoga race tracks the first thing you have to do is find a good racebook. Bodog Racebook offers top-notch service and will cover most of the action at these tracks this summer. Once you have your Bodog account, betting on races at Del Mar requires a little more than just reading up on the horses in the field. Turf horses make a name for themselves at Del Mar, and tracking the turf history of your picks is crucial to making good bets.

Betting on races at Saratoga race track requires that you consider the place that the horse is from. Many big horses from the south have been beaten at Saratoga over the years, and northern-bred horses offer great odds against the often weary travellers from the south during the summer meet.

Former Miss California Carrie Prejean resurfaced at the Del Mar Racetrack in San Diego, California and although she still looks good, she sounds pretty awful! Prejean, most famous for offending Perez Hilton, as well as every other homosexual person in the world at the Miss USA pageant, was recently dethroned from her Miss California reign after she failed to make over thirty appearances she was obligated to make for the pageant organization. She also treated behind-the-scenes pageant officials "like shit." Seriously, that was a quote from The Donald.

After hearing Prejean try to carry a tune at Del Mar, we'd tell her not to quit her day job, but unfortunately she doens't have one. Bam! We can't bet that Carrie will get some semblance of her beauty queen career back, but we can bet on the ponies!

This Labor Day, check out some of the exciting stakes races that Saratoga and Del Mar have to offer as the summer racing season wraps up.

Saratoga's official closing day is Monday, Sept. 1 and will end with a pair of exciting stakes races. First off is the 104th running of the $250,000 Gr. 1 Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes, one of the most significant races for 2-year-olds nationwide. “The Hopeful Stakes has long held a unique place on the Saratoga stakes schedule, as the winner is automatically stamped as the crop’s first classic hopeful,” New York Racing Association President and CEO Charles Hayward said. Hallowed past winners include Secretariat in 1972 and Afleet Alex in 2004. This year's prominent nominees include Notonthesamepage, a speedy Wesley Ward-trained colt who placed second in the Tyro Stakes at Monmouth Park in July.

Second on the day's schedule at Saratoga is the Glens Falls Handicap for fillies and mares 3 years old and up, a Grade 3 race on turf. A potential rematch is in the works, as J'ray and Dyna's Lassie, one-two finishers in the Matchmaker Stakes earlier this month, have both been nominated.

Del Mar's second last day of summer racing kicks off with the Windy Sands Handicap, a one-mile race for 3-year-olds and up. Four-year-old Johnny Eves, winless in all five starts this year, will be looking to return to the form which saw him win the Gr. 1 Malibu Stakes in December. The $100,000 I'm Smokin Stakes is next and will feature California-bred 2-year-olds. Look for the Jerry Hollendorfer-trained Babs Moossa to try to add to his unbeaten streak with a third consecutive stakes win. Also looking to continue a two-win streak is Evita Argentina, who is a favorite among the probable starters in the $250,000 Gr. 1 Del Mar Debutante, a seven-furlong race for fillies 2 years old and up.

Two Breeders' Cup Sprint prep races go this weekend, the King's Bishop Stakes and the Pat O'Brien Handicap.

Saturday's 24th running of the Gr. 1 $250,000 King's Bishop Stakes will feature 3-year-olds running seven furlongs at Saratoga. Among the hopefuls is Kentucky-bred Golden Spikes, who will be facing Grade 1 competition for the first time in his career. The Marty Wolfson-trained 3-year-old is coming into the race on a two-win streak, with victories in the Carry Back Stakes and the Unbridled Stakes. Aboard for both wins, jockey Elvis Trujillo will again get the assignment for the King's Bishop Stakes. Also expected to contend is Gentleman James, who was runner-up to Golden Spikes in his two previous outings.

Sunday's Gr. 1 $300,000 Pat O'Brien Handicap, a seven-furlong race to be run on a synthetic track at Del Mar, is a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series race and will grant the winner an automatic berth into the Breeders' Cup Sprint. The horse to watch will be 2007 Breeders' Cup Sprint champion Midnight Lute, whose trainer Bob Baffert has decided against racing him in the Gr. 1 Forego Handicap in Saratoga on Aug. 30, a race he won last year. Although Midnight Lute hasn't raced since being upset in the Cigar Mile last November, his workouts have been stellar – his latest clocking at five furlongs was 58.20 seconds.

Also on the list of potential contenders is Lewis Michael, a 5-year-old who seems to favor synthetic surfaces and will be coming off a fourth-place finish in the Sea O'Erin, and Arson Squad, a multiple Gr. 2 stakes winner who will be looking to rebound from a disappointing sixth place in the San Pasqual Handicap in January.

Likely contenders include the Robert Frankel-trained Proudinsky, who will be hoping to erase memories of his 11th-place finish in the Gr. 1 Woodford Reserve Manhattan Handicap and return to the form which saw him win the Mervyn Muniz Jr. Memorial Handicap in March. Eight-year-old Silver Tree, winner of the recent Gr. 3 $150,000 Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth, and the Todd Pletcher-trained Red Giant, winner of the $150,000 Fourstardave earlier this month, are also nominated.

The Del Mar Mile, a Gr. 2 $400,000 one-mile turf race for 3-year-olds and up, will be run this Sunday, Aug. 24. It is a Breeders' Cup Challenge series race, which will grant the winner an automatic berth into the 2008 Breeders' Cup Mile. Among the nominees is Bold Chieftain, who boasts a record of 11 wins in 20 outings. His victories include the $131,000 California Dreamin' Handicap, a race he also won in 2007, and trainer and co-owner Bill Morey Jr. would like to add to Bold Chieftain's resume with a graded stakes win. "We know it's a big step up, but maybe he deserves the chance," Morey said.

The venerable 9-year-old Perfect Drift is also a possible starter, and will be coming into the race with a 2008 record of two fourth-place finishes and an eighth-place finish in the Hollywood Gold Cup in June.
