The 24-year-old left hander threw six shutout innings en route to leading his Minnesota Twins to a 6-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians.

The win gives the Twins possession of first place in the American League Central over the now second place Chicago White Sox.

The White Sox, in contrast, were demolished by a Kansas City Royals club to the tune of 14-3.

In the AL East, the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels enjoyed on offense-filled game.

Newly acquired Angel Mark Teixeira grand slammed in the eighth inning and right fielder Reggie Willitis added four RBI of his own, but the Halos would ultimately fall short to Xavier Nady and the Yanks 14-9. Nady led the game with six RBI.

In National League action Manny Ramirez drove in three runs in four hits for the Los Angeles Dodgers as his new club prevailed over the Arizona Diamond Backs 9-3.
