Cabrera made par on the second playoff hole to defeat Kenny Perry and win the 2009 Masters championship in dramatic finish at Augusta National Golf Club.

When the day started Cabrera and Perry were listed at +200 to win, even with Tiger Woods (+1400) and Phil Mickelson (+1600) lurking in the distance.

Chad Campbell, who was listed at +750, was eliminated on the first playoff hole after he made bogey, while the other players saved par.

Woods, who at one point pulled to within one shot of the lead, stumbled to a bogey-bogey finish to card a 4-under 68. Woods finished at 8-under par for the tournament.

Cabrera is the first player from Argentina to win the Green Jacket. It's his second career major title, following his triumph at the 2007 U.S. Open at Oakmont, Pennsylvania.

Y.E. Yang was first to finish at last year’s Honda Classic and this year he just plain finished first.
Alone in front before a wild finish, Yang shot a 2-under 68 Sunday to end up one shot ahead of John Rollins and pick up his first PGA Tour victory.

Yang entered the day as a +450 favorite to win.

Yang took command with three straight birdies on the front side and did not fold, picking up a check for $1,008,000. With the win, he also qualified for next week’s CA Championship at Doral, plus earned an invitation to next month’s Masters.

Rollins was pegged at +750 to win on Sunday. Ben Crane (+1800) was third after finishing 6 under, and Jeff Klauk (+900) was alone in fourth, another shot back.

Defending champion Ernie Els shot 66 and finished tied for 22nd.

The American Ryder Cup team wasn’t expected to do much this year, not with Europe winning the last three events in a row and Tiger Woods unavailable to play. But the Europeans didn’t bring their A-team to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. Team USA won 16 1/2 to 11 1/2, their most lopsided finish at the Ryder Cup since 1981.

Europe captain Nick Faldo has taken heat for choosing Ian Poulter and Paul Casey for this year’s squad over successful veterans Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke. Then Faldo shuffled his lineup as Europe fell behind early, benching Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood for the morning foursomes in Day 2 of the three-day event.

Poulter turned out to be a pretty good choice – he won all three matches he was in. Casey, on the other hand, took a loss and halved his other two matches. Hunter Mahan starred for the U.S. by going undefeated in five appearances.

Andrew Giuliani, 22, is best known as the son of former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani.

But he's about to be known for much, much more.

According to various reports, Giuliani – a Duke University student and golf team member – is suing the school on the premise that his golf coach make false accusations about him to justify his dismissal from the team.

The coach – O.D. Vincent III – said Giuliani "flipped his putter a few feet to his golf bag" and drove fast while leaving a golf course parking lot, according to the lawsuit. Giuliani also was accused of playing a team football game harder than the other players liked and of being disrespectful to a trainer.

Wow.

In the grand scheme of golf, this story isn't much considering Giuliana was a fringe player on the team whose best performance was a tie for 36th at the Fighting Illini Invitational. But still, it's golf news…which means we can talk about golf betting! Visit the Bodog Sportsbook today for all your golf props and futures!

Could Tiger Woods someday be going for a gold medal? (AI Wire photo)

They already have ping pong, er, table tennis, so why not give a real sport a try? According to PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem, golf should be an Olympic sport.

"While there remain questions to be answered and issues to be resolved, I believe the time is now right to move forward," Finchem said via a blog posting on the tour's Web site. "The LPGA and the European Tour have previously indicated their support for Olympic golf. Also, the R&A, the USGA and the PGA of America are evaluating the possibility of Olympic golf.

"While golf is a developed sport in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan and some other countries, it is only a minor sport in many countries, including some of the larger developing countries, like China and India. If golf were an Olympic sport, the profile and importance of the game would increase, generating additional interest in people playing golf and also generating funding from both national Olympic committees and individual governments for the development of golf and young golfers."

Finchem went on to note that schedules would have to be adjusted in order to accomodate the players who want to participate and that the earliest he sees golf becoming an Olympic sport is 2016.

Anyway, we thought you might be interested.

Here's an excerpt:

While Woods is the reason Williams has become famous, his story is about more than the Tiger pictures, flags and golf bags that dominate his trophy room. It's about a hard-working, blue-collar millionaire who is just as comfortable on the back stretch of a dirt track in a late-model Mustang as he is reading putts on the 18th at Augusta National. It's about a fiercely competitive, win-at-all-costs perfectionist who takes nine hours to mow his four-acre yard because he chooses to use a push mower. And it's about a man who has become a hero in his homeland, not for carrying a famous man's golf clubs or winning a racing championship, but for an astonishing display of generosity.
