Jury misconduct could be the reason behind why a mistrial has been declared in the Bahamas in the blackmailing case of John Travolta over his sixteen-year-old son Jett's death. Pleasant Bridgewater and Tarino Lightbourne are accused of trying to extort $25million from Travolta with private information about the rescue effort.

Supreme Court Justice Anita Allen said that although she was reluctant to call a mistrial, she felt she had to do so "in the interest of justice," adding that possible "communication" from the jury room could be a sign of jury misconduct.

The Travolta's were vacationing in the Bahamas at the time of Jett’s death. Jett apparently suffered a seizure and hit his head on the bathtub, toilet seat, or both. A hotel manager was first on scene along with a family friend and the two of them administered CPR. Travolta arrived shortly after and performed CPR until help arrived.

A rep for Travolta said of the mistrial: "We are disappointed to hear about the alleged juror misconduct since we know that the Bahamian government, the court, the other jurors and John Travolta as the victim want to have this matter adjudicated through the judicial system. Mr. Travolta has and will continue to cooperate with the Bahamian authorities in the prosecution of the defendants for extortion."

Police in the Bahamas have taken three suspects into custody: Senator Pleasant Bridewater, Obie Wilchombe, the former Minister of Tourism, and Tarino Lightbourne, a paramedic who tried to revive Jett at the scene.

Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater resigned from Parliament today, releasing the following statement:

"Yesterday, 23rd January is a day that will live in my memory as a nightmare. In my capacity as a lawyer, I acted within the bounds of the law and within the bounds of my ethical responsibility to my profession. How these innocent actions can be so misconstrued, so perversely twisted to mean something other than it was, is a mystery.

I assure the Bahamian people of my complete and total innocence and I am satisfied that when the full story comes out that I shall be fully vindicated. I will then take all appropriate and lawful actions for redress and to protect my good name."

It's horrific," Cruise said after a long and thoughtful pause. "It's just horrific. Here you have a man, both of them doting parents, they're wonderful people and," Cruise trailed off as Walters turned the attention on Scientology. After Jett's death, which was apparently related to a seizure, there had been reports that perhaps he was not receiving proper medical care for his condition, due to his parents' religious beliefs as Scientology dscourages followers from seeking medical care for certain illnesses.

"That's just not true. It's actually false," Cruise said. "They say, 'Get your physical, get your medication, get your physical illnesses handled.'"

The Church of Scientology also has spoken out against the rumors, saying, "Scientologists use prescription drugs when physically ill and also rely on the advice and treatment of medical doctors. The Church does not involve itself in the diagnosis or classification of any medical condition."

The Travolta's were vacationing in the Bahamas at the time of the tragedy. A hotel manager was first on scene along with a family friend and the two of them administered CPR. John Travolta arrived shortly after and took over for a "substantial period of time [and] was performing CPR and continued that until EMT came and took over."

A close friend of the family told TMZ that the pain of John Travolta and Kelly Preston is "unimaginable and unquantifiable."

It is believed that Jett was autistic, however John and Kelly, who adhere to the beliefs of the Church of Scientology, have denied this, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome.
