Matchmakers for EliteXC have chosen the next opponent for Kimbo Slice (2-0).

For the main event of their May 31 event, which will be shown on CBS, Slice will fight U.K. brawler James Thompson (14-8).

A veteran of the Pride Fighting Championships, Thompson has beaten MMA legend Don "The Predator" Frye (19-6-1) and Japanese Olympic judo hero Hidehiko Yoshida (7-6-1).

Standing 6 feet 5 inches and weighting 264 pounds, Thompson is known for rushing across the ring to attack his opponent immediately at the opening bell. The strategy doesn't always work out for him, as "The Colossus" has lost three of his last five fights, and is coming off a two-loss losing streak.

His most recent defeat came at Elite XC: Street Certified in February, where he was KO'd by Brett Rogers (6-0-0).

At that same event, Kimbo knocked out UFC legend David "Tank" Abbott (9-14) to improve his professional MMA record to 2-0.

Internet street-fighter Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (2-0) is overrated according to former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell (21-5).

Speaking with The Sun, Liddell says that Kimbo doesn't deserve the admiration he's getting from mixed martial arts fans and promoters.

"Kimbo's one of those guys who doesn't have any ground game. He's training and he's learning but he's been built up as such a big star and that's the thing that bothers me," he says. "People talk about him like he's the next great thing when he really hasn't done anything."

Since switching from illegal street fights to MMA, Kimbo has beaten Bo Cantrell (10-11) and David "Tank" Abbott (9-14) by knockout. Liddell is not impressed by either fight or by the footage of Kimbo's street fights on YouTube.com.

"He's been built up because of the Internet and him beating a bunch of guys on the street," he jokes. "I could make some impressive knockout videos too if you let me walk outside and just punch people and knock them out."

"We can make a highlight reel tomorrow and go round beating people up and talk about it," Liddell continues. "We could just go up to people and start dropping them – wow!"

"The Iceman" is scheduled to face Rashad Evans (11-0-1) at UFC 85: Liddell vs. Evans on June 7 in London, England. Currently, he is a -265 favorite to win in the Bodog Sportsbook. Evans is a +205 underdog.

Kimbo's next fight will headline the first episode of EliteXC Saturday Night Fights onMay 31 on CBS. His opponent has not yet been named.

Mixed martial arts is coming to major network television.

ProElite Inc., parent company of the EliteXC and ShoXC, has signed a multi-year deal with CBS to broadcast four, two hour MMA events per year on Saturday nights during primetime.

The deal means that EliteXC fighters like Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (2-0-0) will soon be appearing alongside CBS shows like The Amazing Race, CSI: Miami and New Adventures of Old Christine.

"It’s the single biggest thing to ever happen to mixed martial arts," EliteXC president Gary Shaw tells The Fight Network. "This is spectacular news for EliteXC, but I really believe this is beyond spectacular news for mixed martial arts. It’s a huge jump for us. It shows that we’re for real."

The first EliteXC show on CBS could come as early as April, with Slice headlining a show in either Atlantic City or Newark, N.J.

Canadian heavyweight Gary Goodridge (23-15-1) wants to show the world that internet street fighter Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (2-0-0) is all hype.

"Kimbo Slice is a 2008 version of Mr. T," Goodridge tells Fight Network Radio. "Was Mr. T tough back then? No. Could he beat anybody back then? No, but he had the words, he had the lyrics, and he had the gold."

"I know people that will put him down and spank his ass," he continues. "I would fight ‘Kimbo’ for free. Make the fight up, and I will fight him for free just to show people that I could kick his ass. He can’t beat nobody. He don’t want any of this."

Kimbo has had two pro-MMA fights, and KO'd both Bo Cantrell (10-11-0) and David "Tank" Abbott (9-14-0) in the first round. Fans have questioned the validity of both wins, and are eager to see Slice fight a more competitive opponent.

Goodridge would certainly qualify as competitive. A 12-year veteran of the sport, he last fought in March, beating Jan "The Giant" Nortje (2-5-0) by TKO at K-1 Hero's.

Paul "The Headhunter" Buentello wants to fight Kimbo Slice.

Former UFC heavyweight title contender Paul "The Headhunter" Buentello (23-19-0) wants to fight EliteXC star Kimbo Slice (2-0-0).

"Me and Kimbo should lace up the gloves," he tells MMAweekly.com. "He’s fighting all the guys I’ve already knocked out and I’ve already exposed. He needs to get off that buffet line I put out there and come over to my Paul Buentello taco shop and see if we can get to work.”

Both Slice and Buentello have knocked out David "Tank" Abbott (9-14-0) and Bo Cantrell (10-11-0). Together, "Tank" and Cantrell spent less than 90-seconds in Buentello's "taco shop". Slice beat them in even less time, needing just over a minute in the cage to beat both opponents.

"I give him much respect. He stepped up. He went from street fighting to MMA and everybody thought he couldn’t produce, but he’s doing it," says Buentello. "He’s been training and accomplished a lot in a year or so. He’s really putting his hands together, he’s really putting his game plan together.”

Buentello's next fight will be March 29 in Strikeforce. After that, he says a fight with Kimbo is something fans want to see.

"Everybody asks me ‘When are you going to fight Kimbo? You should fight that Kimbo guy,'" he says. "I’m just throwing the offer out there. I know [Kimbo] would take the offer in a heartbeat, but he does have management."

There was a moment on Saturday night when I thought that David "Tank" Abbott actually had a shot at beating Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson. Even though he came into the cage wearing two knee braces, hobbling like an arthritic fishing boat captain, I felt a glimmer of hope, a chance that he might KO the "Six-Figga Nigga."

I'm sure the matchmakers at EliteXC felt the same, and a twinge of panic ran through them like a concerned parent seeing their youngest child head off to college. Thankfully for them, "Kimbo" passed his second test in mixed martial arts easily, knocking Abbott around the cage like he was just another bum in a parking lot, while legions of howling fans waved "Kick Ass Kimbo" signs, which rather obviously, had been given to them by the heavily "pro-Kimbo" biased event promoters.

After his second fight, "Kimbo" has spent just over a minute in the cage, not including the amateur fight debacle where he choked out former boxing champion Ray Mercer. Now, as MMA-conspiracy theorists suggest that the "Tank" match was just another worked fight, the rest of us are wondering who "Kimbo" will fight next?

Kimbo Slice knocked out "Tank" Abbott at EliteXC: Street Certified. (MMAweekly.com Photo)

On Saturday, Feb. 16 in Miami, Fla., it took Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (2-0-0) just 43 seconds to knock out David "Tank" Abbott (9-14-0) in the main event of EliteXC: Street Certified.

From the opening bell, both fighters went to war immediately, clashing toe-to-toe. After eating a hard shot from his opponent, Abbott tried to take his opponent to the mat, but his takedown attempt was thwarted, as Slice spun away. Midway through the fight, the referee intervened and warned Kimbo for punching Abbott in the back of the head. Quickly the match was restarted and, again, Kimbo landed the harder shots. After another failed takedown attempt, Abbott took a crushing punch on the jaw and fell face-first to the canvas.

“I wanted him to get up, I wanted to bang,’’ Kimbo said later. “I had to push him off because we were too close. Then I just knocked him down. It was great fighting in front of the hometown fans. I’d be lying if I told you they didn’t jack me up. I have a lot of respect for Tank. This was one of my dream fights, along with Mike Tyson. But I am ready to fight anybody and ready to fight again really soon."

Other winners were Antonio Silva (10-1-0), UFC veteran Scott Smith (13-5-0) and Bodog Fight veteran Yves Edwards (33-13-1) who won with an incredible flying knee knockout.
