There was no Magic in Orlando tonight as the Lakers beat the Magic 99-86.

Kobe Bryant got his fourth title, coach Phil Jackson has his 10th, and just like that the Los Angeles Lakers earned their 15th national championship victory. Bryant scored 30 points and Pau Gasol added 14 and 15 rebounds on the night.

Coach Jackson now holds the record as the winningest coach in NBA finals history, a record that until tonight was held by Boston coach Red Auerbach as the winningest coach in finals history.

"I'll smoke the cigar tonight in memory of Red," Jackson said. "He was a great guy."

So that leaves…baseball? There's plenty of MLB baseball betting at the Bodog Sportsbook!

For those who stayed up late to see it, you now know the NBA Finals could be over as early as Sunday.

The Los Angeles Lakers took a stranglehold on the series following a 99-91 ATS victory (NBA Odds listed the Lakers as +1.5 underdogs in that game) over the Orlando Magic on Thursday night.

Derek Fisher drained a three-pointer with 4.6 seconds remaining in regulation, then hit the go-ahead three with 31 seconds left in overtime.

The Lakers, who won their second overtime of the final, take a 3-1 series lead with Game 5 set for Orlando on Sunday night.

Dwight Howard did all he could do in Game 4 with 16 points, 21 rebounds, and a Finals-record nine blocked shots. The only blemish on an amazing night for Howard was that he missed eight free throws.

Only eight NBA teams have come back from a 3-1 hole in a best-of-seven series and it would be a shocker if the Magic made it nine.

Even though they're tops in the Western Conference and they're the 8/5 favorites at the Bodog Sportsbook to win the 2009 NBA Championship, the Los Angeles Lakers are not universally loved. The force that is Kobe Bryant may have a monstrous head following, but a hideous part of you secretly enjoys (relishes, squeals with glee) seeing him lose. Right?

Look, Bodog shares your enthusiasm for betting on NBA basketball and with the playoffs coming up…well, let's just say they've got an offer you won't want to pass on. Check this out: if you bet on any OTHER team to win the NBA title this year — and the Lakers win — they'll refund your money.

But you have to get your NBA Futures bet in now. You've only got until April 17th. Here's how to Qualify:

1. Go to NBA Futures and place a bet on: "Odds to Win – 2009 NBA Champsionships."

2. If the Lakers win, you'll receive a bonus for the amount of your wager (up to $50) within 48 hours. If the Lakers lose, your bet will be settled as usual.

For more info and for all the rules, go to the 'Bet Against the Lakers' website, created especially for this very cool promotion.

Well, that was anti-climactic.

In a game anticipated to be the United States' first real test of the 2008 Summer Olympics, its Australian counterparts couldn't muster much of a fight, losing 116-85 in a game America dominated from the second quarter onward.

Kobe Bryant poured in 25 while LeBron James chipped in with 16 as the U.S. moved into the semifinals, where they will face defending Olympic gold medalists Argentina in the semis. Australia was paced by 20 points from phenom Patrick Mills, the sophomore from St. Mary's. Andrew Bogut, the lone NBAer on the Aussie roster, was invisible for much of the night and ended up with just four points in 11 minutes of action.

It promises to be an engaging affair in the semis though, as Argentina possesses one of the best teams in the international game and still have bragging rights as the winners from the previous games in Athens. If you're looking to get in on the action for this one, check out the Bodog Sportsbook today for all the latest 2008 Olympic Summer Games Betting available today!

Well, we certainly wouldn't be in possession of the latest installment of the Kobe-Shaq feud (which we thought was dead). In case you haven't heard by now, Shaq took the stage at a New York nightclub on Sunday night and did a little freestyling. Most of his lyrics? Aimed right at former his former teammate.
Last week Kobe couldn't do without me….

I'm a horse, Kobe ratted me out,

USA Basketball has chosen it's 12-man roster that will attempt to put the United States back on top of the world as a basketball super power.

Named to the 2008 USA Basketball Senior National Team were: Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets); Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz); Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors); Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers); Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic); LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers); Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks); Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets); Tayshaun Prince (Detroit Pistons); Michael Redd (Milwaukee Bucks); Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat); and Deron Williams (Utah Jazz).

Duke University coach Mike Krzyzewski will be the head coach.

“This has been, to say the least, an extremely difficult selection process. The 33 players who committed to be part of the USA Senior National Team program and have been involved in our various training camps and competitions the past two summers deserve recognition and acknowledgment for their contributions and for their commitment to their country,” Senior National team managing director Jerry Colangelo said.

Thank goodness for the 2-3-2 format. Without it, we'd likely be looking at life with no basketball, no hockey and no football. With it, we can treasure at least two more days until baseball is all we've got, save for Tiger-less golf tournaments and soccer games between Turkey and Croatia.

The Los Angeles Lakers, now trailing the NBA finals 3-2, beat the Boston Celtics 103-98 on Sunday at home to force Game 6 back in Beantown on Tuesday. And while any win is a good one, when the fans in Staples Center bid their team good luck after the final horn had sounded, not many could possibly be thinking the boys in gold had much of a shot to take the series in seven.

"We'll probably have to play better," Kobe Bryant said following a game in which his Lakers nearly blew another big fourth-quarter lead. "We've won on the road before. We shot the ball like crap back in Beantown the last time, so we're due."

Bryant's confidence aside, the thought of winning two straight in Boston is a daunting one for Los Angeles. The Celtics have covered all five point spreads so far in the finals – testament to their unexpected success against the favored Lakers – and have lost just once in the postseason on their home court.

The Celtics do have one big concern and that's the health of big man Kendrick Perkins, who missed Sunday's game with a sore shoulder. Boston coach Doc Rivers said he's doubtful for Game 6 too, and that, as the Washington Post's Michael Wilbon writes, is bad news for Boston: "With Perkins out, the Celtics might be out of whack. The Lakers suddenly have room to maneuver. Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom seem to stand taller. Kobe has room to drive… His very presence allows [Kevin] Garnett to play forward, not center, a not-so-subtle distinction that favors Garnett's frame and personality."

It's been reported that the NBA Finals have attracted an outstanding 38% more viewers than last year's disappointing series thanks in part to superstars Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett, the drama that inherently follows both, and the revitalization of the league's greatest rivalry.

When the Los Angeles Lakers took the floor in Boston on Thursday night it marked the 11th time these two teams had met in the finals over the past fifty years. Celtics fans can delight in the fact that, before Magic Johnson's Lakers stole the final two matchups with Larry Bird in the mid-80s, the Celtics had won the first eight.

With an 8.7 rating on ABC, up from 6.3 the year before, the NBA is in the midst of enjoying their most watchable final since the Lakers met – and were dealt a shocking defeat – by the Detroit Pistons in 2004.

Though Celtics captain Paul Pierce hobbled his way out a wheelchair and into the spotlight in Game 1, giving hometown Boston a distinct momentum advantage with two timely three-pointers at the end of the third quarter, the Lakers look poised to even things up in Game 2 on Sunday.

Feeling confident that the team you loathed as a child is going to blow it once again? Put your money where your hatred is with NBA playoff odds.
