Coming off a dominating victory over Oscar De La Hoya, Pacquiao was even better against Hatton, knocking him down two times in the first round before finally stopping him with a vicious left hand that dropped Hatton for good in the 140-pound title bout.

Pacquiao was a + 200 favorite, but few thought Hatton would go easily. His only loss came when he was stopped in the 10th round by Floyd Mayweather Jr., and he built a career and a reputation as a tough and aggressive fighter who wore his opponents down.

Boxing's Golden Boy took a royal beating last night in Las Vegas in what was billed as "The Dream Match". Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao instead showed the world that he is indeed the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.

Hitting De La Hoya early in the first with right jabs and straight lefts, Pacquiao gained an early lead in a match that oddsmakers had given to De La Hoya. Although bigger than his opponent, the elder De La Hoya appeared to be cowering rather than challenging Pacquiao.

Round after round, Pacquiao dominated with right jabs, straight lefts, right hooks and right uppercuts. Then, during the eighth round, Oscar's left eye had closed completely and his trainer had to tell the referee to stop the fight.

"I had to protect him," trainer Nacho Beristain said. "I had to stop the fight."

With the win, Pacquiao scored one for the little man.

"I knew right way I could win this fight, most likely by a stoppage," Pacquiao said. "I controlled the action. I was able to defend against his jab. I was able to move around."

After the fight, De La Hoya was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure and was unavailable for comment.

And yet De La Hoya is the –190 favorite for Saturday’s big-money matchup at the MGM Grand. Pacquiao is the +150 underdog. The over/under on rounds is 9.5, and while the over is –185, this is a 12-round fight. The tale of the tape reveals why a De La Hoya knockout is anticipated:

Word from the camp of Oscar De La Hoya on Wednesday suggested that a deal has been set for the Golden Boy to take on Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao on December 6th, presumably in Las Vegas.

De La Hoya (39-5, 30 KOs) has been in talks with Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs) for weeks. But negotiations got bogged down when the sides could not come to an agreement on how to split the revenue, which is expected to exceed more than $100 million.

After a hard training camp, Manny Pacquiao (45-3-2, 45 KO's) is ready for his rematch against Juan Manuel Marquez (47-3-1, 34 KO's), Saturday, March 15 in Las Vegas.

"This is the toughest ever not only because this was the longest but the hardest as well," he tells the Manilla Bulletin. "I had to sacrifice a lot like being away from my loved ones. I also did not allow myself to get bothered by distractions as I set them all aside during my eight-week training."

A former WBC flyweight champion and IBF super-bantamweight champion, Pacquiao will challenge Marquez for the WBC super-featherweight crown. Currently, he is the -215 favorite in the Bodog Sportsbook while the current champ Marquez is a +175 underdog.

Their first fight, in May of 2004, ended in a controversial draw when Pacquiao knocked Marquez down 3 times in the first round but went on to lose the rest of the match. Afterwards, one of the judges admitted to making a mistake while filling out the scorecards.

This time, Marquez is determined to win. "I am going to show on Saturday that I deserved to win our first fight," he says.
