U.S. senators for Pennsylvania and New York are engaging in some sports betting using local delicacies as currency for their World Series betting.

If the Yankees win, Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand will win a supply of Philadelphia cheesesteaks.

If the Philadelphia Phillies win, Senators Arlen Specter and Robert Casey will get some cheesecakes from Junior's world-famous cheesecakes.

The fun bets made by the senators have also taken a charitable turn. If the Yankees lose, New York City's Hunts Point Terminal Market has made a promise to donate local produce to a Philadelphia food bank. If the Phillies lose, the Philadelphia Regional Produce Market will send food to a New York City food bank.

It's good to see politicians and businesses having fun with the World Series betting! The World Series action begins on Wednesday night in New York. Be sure to get all your World Series odds in the Bodog Sportsbook.

This is an exciting weekend for baseball fans as the regular season comes to a close and the playoffs are days away. On Sunday alone there are still 16 games to play out. (Get your MLB odds on those games at Bodog Sportsbook now!)

For bettors looking for some last-minute MLB futures, now is the time to get your wagers in before the odds change.

The New York Yankees were early favorites to win 2009 World Series and over at Bodog Sportsbook they're still sitting pretty at 9/5 odds to win it all. But if you want to make some money and you're willing to go against the flow, then go with a team like the Colorado Rockies (12/1), the Los Angeles Angels (7/1), or even the St. Louis Cardinals (5/1). And yes, the Boston Red Sox are still very much in it to win another World Series Championship at 5/1 odds.

Still, there are a lot of Yankees fans out there and considering the Bronx Bombers haven't won the World Series since 2000 (against the New York Mets) — this may be their year.

Get all your MLB futures at Bodog Sportsbook!

Nearly 50 hours after Game 5 started but was stopped by rain, Brad Lidge and the Philadelphia Phillies finished off the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in a three-inning sprint Wednesday night to win the World Series. Pedro Feliz singled home the go-ahead run in the seventh and Lidge closed out his perfect season to deliver the title Philly craved for so long.

For bettors the outcome was already decided because sports books stuck to their guidelines, giving Philly backers the cash because their team was winning 2-1 after the fifth inning was completed on Monday.

Cole Hamels, who was 4-0 in five postseason starts, was named MVP. The Phillies finished the postseason with an 11-3 mark and as the top money team in the playoffs. It should not be that long before futures odds for 2009 are posted, and expect the Phillies and Rays to be near the top of the list.

Is it possible there will actually be baseball tonight? The Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays hope to finish off Game 5, but of course there is bad weather in the forecast. When the game was suspended Monday night it was tied at 2 in the sixth inning when a steady downpour turned Citizens Bank Park into an absolute mess, washing away the foul lines and turning home plate into a puddle.

The Phillies lead 3-1 in the best-of-seven matchup, meaning Philadelphia could be close to winning the championship the city desperately craves. Delays in the World Series are rare since there has never been a rain-shortened game, and this was the first suspension.

How will it influence the series? The Phillies have lost their ace Cole Hamels, and the Rays now have a bit of life to possibly get it back to their home field for Games 6 and 7.

The Philadelphia Phillies have a chance to clinch a title in front of their home crowd as they try to finish off the Rays in Game 5 tonight. Philly powered its way to a 10-2 win over Tampa Bay last night to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

It was only a matter of time before slugger Ryan Howard heated up. Howard went 3-for-4 with five RBIs, with a three-run homer in the fourth and a two-run shot in the eighth. Tonight's contest features a rematch from Game 1 as Philadelphia's Cole Hamels looks to continue his postseason dominance while again facing Scott Kazmir. The odds are certainly stacked against the Rays since Hamels is 4-0 with a 1.55 ERA this postseason. Bet on the World Series in the Bodog Sportsbook.

The Phillies are now 1-for-28 with runners in scoring position, and if that does not change at home Philadelphia is in trouble.

ALCS MVP Matt Garza is scheduled to pitch for Tampa Bay on Saturday against 45-year-old Jamie Moyer, making his World Series debut.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Phillies have been off for a week after clinching the NLCS in five games. Game 1 goes tonight as Phillies ace Cole Hamels faces fellow 24-year-old lefthander Scott Kazmir at Tropicana Field.

The youngest position players in this series have become the Rays’ biggest stars. Evan Longoria had four homers and eight RBIs over the final six games of the ALCS, while B.J. Upton has seven homers in 11 playoff games while driving in 15 runs. Neither Upton nor Longoria have faced Hamels, and only four Tampa Bay hitters have ever faced him.

One area of concern for Phillies backers is the apparent huge gap between the AL and NL. There were 252 interleague games played this year, and the AL won 59.1 percent of them. Are the Rays more battle-tested?

Is the MLB regular season over yet? With the end of September in sight, you have to know that October spells MLB playoffs and then – the World Series. Here’s why you won’t want to miss this major betting opportunity:

10. The Yankees won’t be there – That’s really not a reason to bet, I guess, but it’s always good for Yankee haters to hear.

9. It’s the last chance this season to bet baseball – If baseball’s your game you’d be a fool not to bet on the Fall Classic.

8. Home team odds – In World Series games the home team is almost always favored. That means underdog payouts if the visitors win. And if visitors never won, every World Series would go seven games.

7. Makes baseball snoozers worth watching – If you hate watching baseball, or if Game 3 of the Fall Classic turns out to be a borefest, at least a few wagers and props can make it bearable.

6. MVP props – The World Series MVP never seems to go to the player you expect it to before the series begins. That means the futures pay a ton if you can get lucky. How much do you think Mike Lowell paid last year, or David Eckstein the year before?

5. In-game betting – Make money on every pitch and every hit with in-game betting. It’s the best thing to happen to baseball betting since the run line.

4. Aces under – When two staff aces face off there’s got to be an Under on the total, right? If it is, then cha-ching!

3. Americana – You’re combining two great piece of Americana – betting and baseball. What’s not to love?

2. Tim McCarver sucks – At least by betting on the game, and hopefully winning, you get something out of the game, which is more than you’ll get from the incessant whine of McCarver.

1. Make back that money you lost on football – If you make some money winning on baseball maybe that will make up for your awful football picks.

Get your World Series odds in the Bodog Sportsbook today
