Kyle Busch had reason to celebrate Saturday night when he held off Mark Martin over a frantic four-lap sprint to the finish at Bristol Motor Speedway. His fourth victory of the season put him back in contention for the Chase for the championship.

Busch was the +600 favorite heading into the race.

Martin, the pole-sitter, finished second in the 1,000th start of his career.

Marcos Ambrose was third, while Greg Biffle and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five. Hamlin came back from an early tire issue to grab his top-five finish.

Ryan Newman was sixth and was followed by Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Matt Kenseth.

It was a mixed night for the Chase contenders. Points leader Tony Stewart had an early radio problem, an issue with his power, and a generally miserable night as he finished 33rd. Kasey Kahne was 28th, and Carl Edwards was 16th.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway for Saturday's Sharpie 500. The event is the second of two Cup races there this season.

Kyle Busch is the favorite, listed at +600 to win. Last year Busch dominated, but Carl Edwards (+750) won in the end.

Denny Hamlin (+800) is another driver who could win at Bristol. In his last three starts he has finished sixth, third and second. Hamlin's short-track skills are well known in fantasy circles, and he should be in the mix for a couple of more wins before the Chase begins.

Jeff Gordon hasn't finished outside the top 11 in six straight starts at the short track, and he has four top five finishes during that span. Gordon enters this weekend's race listed at +800 to cross the finish line first.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has always fared well at Bristol and is pegged at +2000.

After a surprising gamble on gas by his crew chief, Brian Vickers drove conservatively to conserve fuel. Then he pounced when race leader Jimmie Johnson’s tank ran dry, taking the lead with two laps to go and holding on to win Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.

Vickers won his second career race, boosted his chances of making the Chase, and delivered the first checkered flag for Red Bull Racing.

Jeff Gordon finished second, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, and Sam Hornish Jr. Series points leader Tony Stewart, who clinched his spot in the Chase by starting Sunday’s race, finished 17th.

Johnson has never won at Michigan despite leading laps in each of his last six races there. That includes 133 laps on Sunday and 146 laps in June, only to run out of gas both times.

Vickers is listed at +4000 to win the Sprint Cup Championship this year.

Okay so it was not the weekend, but the boys of NASCAR finally got on the track.

Tony Stewart won the rain-delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen International on a steamy afternoon, muscling an ill-handling car in the early going and then holding off Marcos Ambrose over the final 25 laps for his Cup-record fifth victory at the famed road course.

Stewart, listed at +300 to win the championship, has finished first or second in eight of the past 11 Cup road races.

He has finished fifth or better in eight of his last 10 starts, all top 10s, and leads Jimmie Johnson in the standings by 260 points.

Ambrose was second, a career best, and Carl Edwards third. Kyle Busch, Greg Biffle, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kurt Busch, Max Papis, Clint Bowyer and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top 10. Pole sitter Jimmie Johnson, seeking his first career road win, finished 12th.

Denny Hamlin ended a 50-race winless skid by holding off Juan Pablo Montoya over the final thrilling laps to win at Pocono Raceway.

Hamlin again made Pocono his personal playground, winning on Monday for the third time in eight career starts. He’s had three other top 10s on the triangle track.

Hamlin was listed at +750 to win on Monday, while Montoya was pegged at +2000.

The race had been delayed a day because of rain. Usually not known as a track that produces exciting races, this one was wild and unpredictable almost from the start.

Clint Bowyer (+2600) was third. Sam Hornish Jr. was fourth (+3500) for his best finish in a Cup car, and Kasey Kahne (+1500) was fifth.

It is Hamlin’s first victory since Martinsville Speedway in March 2008, and it strengthens his bid for a spot in the Chase for the championship.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Sunday's Allstate 400 at The Brickyard. The event is the only Cup race there this season, and Jimmie Johnson is the defending race winner.

But currently Johnson (+450 to win Sunday) has some work to do to climb to the top of the standings.

That is where you will find Tony Stewart sitting with 2,884 points, just ahead of Jeff Gordon (2,709) and Johnson at 2,672.

Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Carl Edwards are fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively, but could easily jump spots with a win on Sunday.

Stewart's run this year has been nothing short of exceptional, and Sunday's race is one of the benchmarks of his season. He has two wins at Indy so he knows how to survive there, making him one of the favorites.

Can Stewart, listed at +500 to win, keep his spot on top?

Ever since it was reported that IndyCar Series superstar Danica Patrick paid a visit to Stewart-Haas Racing's shop, everyone has been weighing in on how she would do in NASCAR.

As the racing beauty checks out all her options, there are not many that look as inviting as joining Stewart-Haas.

But to be honest, it does not matter where she goes, it's still going to be a very tough journey for her. If she's serious about coming over to NASCAR, then she needs to sign as quickly as possible and start wearing tracks out over the next six months.

It is still up in the air whether we see Patrick competing in NASCAR once her contract is up at the end of this year, and even if she does switch she won't be worrying the likes of Jimmie Johnson (+300 to win the Sprint Cup) any time soon.

Mark Martin won at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday, getting the strong jump off the double-file restart with two laps left to win his series-high fourth race of the season.

Jeff Gordon's charge to the finish got him second place. He made a late pit stop for four fresh tires which helped him quickly make up ground and earn his third runner-up finish in the last five races.

Martin and Gordon are Hendrick teammates and earned a $1 million prize for a Colorado family. The teammates also grabbed the top two spots at the LifeLock sponsored race in June, setting up the fan's shot at the big cash prize.

Kyle Busch had a dreadful night and finished 33rd. He complained all race about his car to his crew and fell to 10th in the points standings.

Kasey Kahne was third. Points leader Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.

Kyle Busch (+600) thought he mapped out the right strategy to take him to Victory Lane on Sunday.

Instead, he ended the race in the infield care center after a vicious last-lap accident sent him flying into the wall as Tony Stewart (+600) skirted by for the win at the Coke Zero 400.

Stewart had the dominant car, leading a race-high 86 laps and using a flawless pit-road performance to set himself up for his second win as owner of his race team. But Busch had other ideas, taking the lead seconds before the last lap to start a frantic 2.5-mile chase between the former teammates.

Jimmie Johnson was second, and Denny Hamlin, Busch’s teammate, finished third. Edwards was fourth, and Kurt Busch fifth.

Marcos Ambrose was sixth, followed by Brian Vickers, who came back from an accident, and Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth.
