The Preds (at 16-14-3) trail the Red Wings by 15 points in the Central Division standings, and they need to start to string some wins together to get themselves back into the first eight spots in the West standings. Nashville has a middling 5-4-1 mark over their past 10 games, and they were blanked 3-0 by the Florida Panthers and former goaltender Tomas Vokoun in their last game on Tuesday night.

Detroit starting goaltender Chris Osgood has been out with a groin injury, and he’s been watching Ty Conklin play for the past few games. Nashville starting goaltender Dan Ellis has been losing playing time to Pekka Rinne, who is now 7-2-0 with a 2.28 goals-against average through 11 starts on the season. The Stars (+700 to win the west) have not played since Saturday when they were upset 3-1 by the Predators, making it the fourth loss in their last five against Nashville. Dallas went 0-for-5 on the power play in that game and 0-for-35 in its last six games against the Predators.

It won't be any easier tonight for the Stars as goalie Dan Ellis is 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and a shutout in his career against the Stars at the American Airlines Center.

The Nashville Predators were able to hold back the Detroit Red Wings' offense but two late goals helped Detroit pull out the 3-1 win in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

The game was tied through two and a half periods, however, Henrik Zetterberg was able to score with just 6:54 remaining in the contest, and then scored an empty-net goal to seal the win.

The Detroit Red Wings now lead the best-of-seven series 1-0 with the victory. They were -250 favorites to win this game.

Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri saw some overtime action as Nashville's Rich Peverley scored just 1:43 in to give the Predators a 4-3 over the St. Louis Blues.

Jordin Tootoo, Brandon Bochenski and Vernon Fiddler also scored for Nashville to pull them out of a early 3-0 slump. The St. Louis Blues scored three goals in the first 7 minutes of the game by Andy McDonald, David Perron and Jamal Mayers.

The Predators jumped ahead of Vancouver Canucks into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Canucks are currently leading in their bid against Colorado, 1-0. Stay tuned to The Beat for updates.
