According to NHL betting odds, the Caps are listed as -191 home favorites.

Washington, which went 4-2-0 while Ovechkin was out, has earned at least one point in the last 10 games the two-time reigning league MVP has played.

Goaltender Jose Theodore returned to practice Wednesday after missing Tuesday’s game due to personal matters, but his status is uncertain for this contest.

The Capitals went 3-1-0 against the Canadiens last season with Ovechkin recording two goals and two assists.

Montreal is coming off Tuesday’s 3-2 shootout win over Carolina, its second victory in five games.

Carey Price is 0-0-2 with a 3.82 GAA in two career starts against the Capitals.

Though the Chicago Blackhawks are opening their annual circus trip having lost three straight on the road, a perfect homestand and their recent dominance of the Calgary Flames should have them confident going into tonight’s matchup.

Chicago went 3-2-1 on this trek last season after winning just six of 35 games from 2001-02 to 2007-08 on its annual road trip that coincides with the circus taking over the United Center for two weeks.

They enter the opener with momentum after sweeping a four-game homestand, having rallied for a 4-3 overtime victory over Western Conference-leading San Jose on Sunday night.

In regular-season matchups, the Blackhawks have won five straight at the Pengrowth Saddledome and five in a row overall over the Flames.

Calgary had been 5-0-1 to begin the month before a loss to Colorado.

The home team is 6-1 in the last seven matchups in this series.

The New Jersey Devils look to tie the NHL record for consecutive road wins to start a season when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers tonight.

Despite the hot play, NHL hockey betting odds have the Flyers listed as -134 favorites.

New Jersey opened the season with consecutive losses at home to Philadelphia and the New York Rangers, but the team has been outstanding since, especially on the road. The Devils have scored 29 goals while winning nine straight away from home, and they’ve strung together eight straight victories overall.

The Devils look to continue their success on defense as well. They have given up six total goals in their last five games outside New Jersey and killed 27 of 30 opponent power-play opportunities on the road this season.

The Devils will face a Flyers team that is looking to bounce back after having a five-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 loss to Buffalo on Saturday.

The Washington Capitals seek their third straight victory without Alex Ovechkin tonight when the New York Islanders open a seven-game road trip at the Verizon Center.

After a 3-2 loss at New Jersey in their first game without Ovechkin, the Capitals scored 11 goals in a home-and-home sweep of Florida, capped with a 7-4 home victory Saturday.

Jose Theodore started both games versus Florida and has helped the Capitals gain at least a point in six straight starts. Theodore is 5-0-1 with a 2.30 goals-against average in his last six starts against the Islanders, including a 4-3 overtime loss Oct. 30.

Dwayne Roloson is making a case for more playing time in net for the Islanders. He made 31 saves Saturday to improve to 5-1-3 with a 2.74 GAA this season, and is 6-0-2 with a 1.97 GAA in his last eight starts against the Capitals.

There is only one game on the ice tonight, so you might as well be betting on it.

The Chicago Blackhawks hope Jonathan Toews will be available as they open a four-game homestand tonight against the Los Angeles Kings, coming off their first regulation loss in nine games.

NHL hockey odds have the Blackhawks listed as -139 home favorites.

Chicago has gone 1-2-1 over its last four games with all three defeats coming on the road. Chicago has capitalized on home-ice advantage, going 6-2-1.

The Blackhawks could have a better chance of improving their home record if Toews can return from concussion-like symptoms.

Chicago and Los Angeles split four meetings last season with the home team winning each time. The Blackhawks hold a 5-1-1 advantage in the last seven meetings with the Kings at the United Center.

If wagering on this game is how you are spending your Friday night, you must love to bet on hockey.

The Carolina Hurricanes have averaged the fewest goals in the NHL, while the Toronto Maple Leafs have allowed the most per game.

It’s no surprise, then, that the clubs are among the worst in the league as they meet at RBC Center.

NHL hockey betting lines have the Hurricanes listed as -120 home favorites.

Carolina was shut out for the third time this season Wednesday night, 3-0 by Florida. The Hurricanes outshot the Panthers 32-25 but failed to convert on five power-play chances, extending their season-high drought to 13.

The Maple Leafs allowed a league-worst 3.49 goals per game in 2008-09 and are at the bottom of the league again this season, giving up 3.92 a contest.

The Hurricanes won six of the last eight meetings with the Leafs.

The short-handed New Jersey Devils look to bounce back from a poor effort and remain undefeated as a visitor tonight when they meet the Boston Bruins, who are dealing with injury issues as well.

NHL hockey betting odds currently have the Bruins listed as -145 home favorites.

In its first game without defenseman Paul Martin and left wing Jay Pandolfo, each of whom are expected to miss at least four weeks, New Jersey was lackluster in a 4-1 loss to Buffalo on Wednesday.

On the road, though, it’s a different story. New Jersey is 5-0-0 in opponent’s rinks this season with Martin Brodeur posting a 1.95 goals-against average.

Boston also lost two key players recently. Forwards Marc Savard and Milan Lucic are expected to miss at least the next month.

Tim Thomas, who has won his last two starts, was 2-1-1 with a 1.50 goals-against average last season against the Devils.

The injury-plagued Vancouver Canucks seek a fourth straight win tonight while trying to hand the visiting Detroit Red Wings a fourth consecutive defeat.

If you are into NHL hockey betting, be aware that the Red Wings are also 0-7 in their last seven road games.

The Philadelphia Flyers and captain Mike Richards outlasted the Washington Capitals for an entertaining overtime win earlier this month, but coach John Stevens will hope for a more tight-checking affair between the clubs at the Verizon Center tonight.

Anyone doing some NHL hockey betting should know that the Flyers are 5-2 in their last seven against the Eastern Conference.

After beating Washington in seven games in the first round of the 2008 playoffs, the Flyers went 2-1-1 and outscored the Capitals 13-6 in the 2008-09 regular season.

Ray Emery could return to the crease tonight after a strong start with Philly. After playing in Russia last season, Emery signed with the Flyers and is 5-2-1 with a 2.57 goals-against average in his first eight starts.

Jose Theodore is 5-2-0 with a 1.69 GAA in his last seven starts versus Philadelphia.
