The coaches' poll isn’t much different than the AP poll, but then again there have been no games yet to bust up a perfect picture. Can Florida remain the +200 favorite to win it all? Most of these teams will get upset somewhere down the road and this list should look different, even after one week.

Thad Matta may not need to use any motivational tools on his eighth-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes, who will have the luxury of playing about an hour’s drive down Interstate 70 in today’s opening round at the University of Dayton Arena. Most of OSU’s players were already aware of the Siena Saints, which followed up on last year’s tournament success by scheduling non-conference games against Tennessee, Wichita State, Oklahoma State and Kansas.

The 3-point underdog Saints will need all their experience to combat an Ohio State crowd. Even though it is Dayton Flyer country, it is also smack in the middle of Buckeye territory.

The Buckeyes will enjoy a size advantage inside, but what concerns coach Fran McCaffery most is Ohio State’s length on the perimeter and outside shooting. Jon Diebler, the most prolific scorer in Ohio high school history whose shot wouldn’t fall as a freshman, has made 43 percent of his 3-pointers.

Don’t be surprised if it’s the same one he used to gain a big victory over Penn State.

Matta started P.J. Hill at the point instead of Jeremie Simmons, his first change to the starting lineup since the Big Ten opener on Dec. 31, when Dallas Lauderdale replaced B.J. Mullens.

The Boilermakers will host Ohio State on Saturday at Mackey Arena, hoping to avenge an 80-72 overtime loss to the Buckeyes on Feb. 3 in Columbus.

Purdue is still fighting for the conference title and knows it needs help if it hopes to gain at least a share.
Evan Turner was the big man for Ohio State in the first meeting with 26 points, seven assists, and 12 rebounds. William Buford added 22 points. JaJuan Johnson scored a career-high 30 in a losing effort.

Purdue has not won in Columbus since a 107-75 rout of the Buckeyes on Feb. 7, 1998, and has dropped 14 of the last 16 meetings overall between the schools.

Ohio State’s Evan Turner, who scored 15 points against Purdue in March, is the reigning Big Ten player of the week after posting 29 points and 10 rebounds in a 93-81 victory at Indiana on Saturday. Turner is averaging 16.6 points on the season, and 24.0 in his last three games.

Ohio State has won two in a row overall and is 3-1 at home in the Big Ten, with the lone loss a 78-67 defeat to Michigan State on Jan. 25.

The start of the Big Ten season has not been kind to the Buckeyes. After a 9-0 start, Ohio State lost its third decision in four games on Tuesday at Michigan State, 67-58. It was the second road game in four days for OSU, who were a step slow defensively and again fell victim to a long scoring drought.

Now they get to regroup against the Huskies, who lost 14 in a row to begin the season before beating Howard on New Year’s Eve. Houston Baptist is coming off a 64-56 loss to Iowa State on Jan. 6.

Considering Ohio State’s struggles over the last couple of weeks, the Huskies are appearing at just the right time and should help the Buckeyes get back on track.

Despite being 9-point underdogs, the Buckeyes are certainly talented enough to pull off the upset.
The Buckeyes are used to facing top teams in a BCS game. They'll be playing in a BCS bowl for the seventh time in the 11-year history of the system, tying USC and Oklahoma for the most appearances.

Since Terrelle Pryor became the starting quarterback over senior Todd Boeckman Ohio State went 8-1 to finish their season. Pryor completed 62.2 percent of his passes for 1,158 yards and threw 12 TDs and four interceptions over those nine games.

The Buckeyes were eighth in total defense, allowing 279.3 yards per game, as well as holding opponents to the sixth-fewest passing yards per game in the nation.

The 21-point favored Buckeyes also have a strong shot at winning five in a row over rival Michigan for the first time in school history.

Ohio State ranks 84th nationally in total offense, and the Buckeyes are 107th out of 119 Football Bowl Subdivision teams in passing. Facing Michigan could help Ohio State solve those problems. The Wolverines have the eighth-ranked defense in the Big Ten and are giving up nearly 28 points per game.

Heading into their final game of year, the Wolverines are 105th nationally in total offense and last in the Big Ten with less than 300 yards per game.

Oregon State shook up the world last Thursday by beating former No. 1 USC 27-21 as a 24-point road dog. The Beavers (2-2 SU and ATS) have another Thursday night rendezvous planned with the No. 15 Utah Utes (5-0 SU, 2-1-1 ATS). Can OSU make it two improbable upsets in a row?

Utah is coming off something off a bye week, having beaten Weber State 37-21 and sitting the starting unit in the fourth quarter. The Utes have only played one team of note: Air Force, who covered in a messy 30-23 Utah victory. They’ll need to do better against a wild-card Oregon State team with a shiny new weapon: Jacquizz Rodgers.

The No. 14 Ohio State Buckeyes (3-1 SU, 0-3 ATS) have issues. They didn’t look like a title contender in any of their non-con games, in part because of the foot injury RB Beanie Wells suffered in the opener against Youngstown State. All indications are that Wells will return to action this Saturday versus the visiting Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-0 SU, 2-1 ATS).

Ohio State goes into this contest as an 18.5-point favorite. Good thing Wells is a Heisman-quality back, because the Buckeyes offense is in transition right now. Freshman Terrelle Pryor has replaced senior Todd Boeckman at quarterback, and OSU is shuffling its offensive line.

The Gophers can capitalize by playing mistake-free football, and their Big Ten-best +11 turnover margin (Ohio State is +3) suggests they will. The Ohio State Buckeyes dragged their remains out of the L.A. Coliseum after suffering a 35-3 beatdown at the hands of USC. It was a totally one-sided fight, like King Kong Bundy bodyslamming Little Beaver. Now they have to face the almighty Trojans again.

Yes, the Troy Trojans are undefeated at 2-0 (1-0 ATS), while Ohio State is 2-1 (0-2 ATS) and down from No. 5 to No. 13 in the rankings.
