Andy Reid usually doesn't play most of his starters in the final preseason game. But if some of the starters do play, that can be a sign that they haven't locked up a starting job.

One guy who will be playing for sure for the Eagles is Michael Vick. Vick will play in the Eagles' final preseason game, and might even take some snaps as a conventional quarterback.

How much Vick plays against the Jets has yet to be determined.

Vick was in for six wildcat plays in Thursday's game against Jacksonville, throwing four times, running once, and handing the ball off once.

The Jets are coming off a two-point win over the Giants. Rookie QB Mark Sanchez showed vast improvement over his last game, and kept tight throughout all of his playing time.

The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Philadelphia to face the Eagles tonight in what is going to be the most hyped preseason game of the year. Michael Vick makes his return to the NFL and the Jaguars get to be the opposing team for the big event.

The Eagles are listed as 7-point home favorites.

The third preseason game is the closest teams come to playing as if it were a regular game. Expect the starters to play well into the second half, with some starters staying into the final quarter.

Coach Andy Reid has kept his plans secret, but said he won't be reluctant to use Vick in a wildcat formation against the Jaguars.

Maurice Jones-Drew needs to let loose in this game. He has been missing in action thus far in the preseason, and if the Jags expect to win tonight that needs to change.

Time for Peyton Manning to get to work. There is a new left tackle, a bunch of young receivers, and an old guard coming back.

Tonight Week 2 of NFL preseason continues when the 3-point favored Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts hook up.

The Colts plan to hold out 10 players, including six starters. Safety Antoine Bethea and defensive end Raheem Brock are both out with broken hands, Kelvin Hayden is out with a hamstring injury, and Robert Mathis will not play because of a bruised thigh. Safety Bob Sanders and kicker Adam Vinatieri won’t play either

Besides Michael Vick, Philadelphia plans to leave at least seven regulars home, including four of its projected starters on the offensive line and backup QB Kevin Kolb.

Those changes have prompted the Colts to revise their traditional preseason approach. Instead of simply trying to avoid injuries, Manning wants the starters to get a little more work.

Do I think he changes the futures at all for this team in 2009? I don’t, although for 2010 he definitely could. Perhaps the team wasn’t confident in Kevin Kolb as Donovan McNabb’s backup, plus Kolb was recently injured.

Oddsmakers are very high on the Eagles this year, and there is certainly plenty of talent on the Philly roster. But what about McNabb? Remember, McNabb last year struggled so badly in a Week 11 tie with the Bengals (48.3 percent completions, three picks, lost fumble in OT) and the first half of a Week 12 loss to the Ravens (44.4 percent completions, two more picks, another lost fumble) that he was benched for Kolb.

The benching seemed to do the trick, as McNabb bounced back with a huge game the following week in Arizona and played well the rest of the season. He was a big reason the Eagles advanced to the NFC title game. So was that game-and-a-half a mirage or a sign of things to come for a guy who will turn 33 this season? Certainly the Eagles are not a Super Bowl-caliber team without McNabb.

Another concern is the health of versatile running back Brian Westbrook. He’s not exactly durable as it is and is coming off both knee and ankle surgery this offseason. It’s not expected he will play in the preseason but should be ready for Week 1. Westbrook was very up and down last year, but mostly down at the end of the year. He didn’t have more than 53 yards rushing or a touchdown on the ground after Week 14 (including playoffs).

Also of concern for this team is a defense that lost its three leaders, defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, linebacker Stewart Bradley and safety Brian Dawkins. Johnson unfortunately succumbed to cancer, while Dawkins went to Denver as a free agent. Bradley, who was expected to make the defensive calls on the field, tore his ACL early in camp and will miss the season. Joe Mays, a sixth-round pick who played two games as a rookie last year, looks to be the replacement. In addition, the Eagles overhauled the offensive line, dumping long-time starters Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan.

On the positive side, the Eagles had a tremendous draft, getting both receiver Jeremy Maclin and running back LeSean McCoy. Both of those guys should help right away, and perhaps Vick can help in a Wildcat-type role whenever he is reinstated to play. And the defense should remain one of the league’s best, with new coordinator Sean McDermott expected to keep the same attacking style.

In reality, the Eagles are trying to retool on the fly. That’s hard to do.

Here is the Eagles’ 2009 schedule, and we’ll break it down after:

Sept. 13 at Carolina Panthers, 1 p.m.

Sept. 20 vs. New Orleans Saints, 1 p.m.

Sept. 27 vs. Kansas City Chiefs, 1 p.m.

Week 4: Bye

Oct. 11 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m.

Oct. 18 at Oakland Raiders, 4:05 p.m.

Oct. 26 at Washington Redskins, 8:30 p.m.

Nov. 1 vs. New York Giants, 4:15 p.m.

Nov. 8 vs. Dallas Cowboys, 8:20 p.m.

Nov. 15 at San Diego Chargers, 4:15 p.m.

Nov. 22 at Chicago Bears, 8:20 p.m.

Nov. 29 vs. Washington Redskins, 1 p.m.

Dec. 6 at Atlanta Falcons, 1 p.m.

Dec. 13 at New York Giants, 8:20 p.m.

Dec. 20 vs. San Francisco 49ers, 1 p.m.

Dec. 27 vs. Denver Broncos, 1 p.m.

Jan. 3 at Dallas Cowboys, 1 p.m.

Strength of schedule: 9th (opponents combined to go 137-119, .535, in 2008)

Projected record: 10-6

Bodog over/under total: 9 1/2

Bodog odds to win NFC East: 19/10

Bodog odds to win NFC: 9/2

Bodog odds to win Super Bowl XLIV: 10/1

After opening with a game at Carolina, a very possible loss, the Eagles will be at home for three straight weeks and will be favored against the Saints, Chiefs and Bucs. The bye week is way too early for Andy Reid’s liking.

It’s important for Philly to start strong because later the team has three sets of back-to-back road games that includes two trips to the West Coast. That Oct. 18 game at Oakland is the Eagles’ first there since 1995, and they later make their first trip to San Diego in 11 years.

Oct. 26 begins an incredibly tough eight-game stretch for Philly, with five games in the division, that visit to Super Bowl contender San Diego, one at Chicago (where the Eagles lost last year) and then to another likely NFC playoff team in Atlanta. Of course, that game in Atlanta will be a circus with Vick returning to town.

At least the Eagles get a bit of a respite with the Niners and Broncos visiting before Philly concludes its regular-season schedule against the Cowboys for the second straight year – this time it’s on the road. A playoff spot could again be at stake.

Michael Vick is officially a Philadelphia Eagle. Vick sat with Eagles head coach Andy Reid, left, and former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, right, during a press conference in Philadelphia. Vick is back in the NFL after scoring himself a position on the Philadelphia Eagles, who gave Vick a one-year deal with an option for a second year.

Referring to killing dogs, Vick acknowledged that he had "made mistakes." He said he knows that he's "done some terrible things" and called his dog fighting past a "pointless activity" that he knew was wrong, even while he did it.

Vick also told the peeps, "I won't disappoint," and that "Playing in the NFL is a privilege, not a right," and "You only get one shot at a second chance."

What do you think? Does Vick deserve a second chance? On a side note, your Bodog Beat editor had a great idea for manufacturers of dog poop bags. How about making poop bags with Michael Vick's picture on them? Or pee pads for puppies with Michael Vick's face on them? That would be great revenge for dogs everywhere – peeing and pooping on Vick's image. If you're reading this dog poop bag manufacturers – the idea is all yours. You're welcome!

Former Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick, who has not played in the NFL since 2006 and was convicted in 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation and then sentenced to 23 months in the slammer (and suspended indefinitely by the NFL and then recently reinstated), signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

FOXSports.com initially received the news of Vick's signing from a source, but then Vick's agent Joel Segal called to confirm. According to the deal, Vick will pocket $1.6 million the first year, and the Eagles have an option on the second year for $5.2 million.

So there you go. I wonder how Vick will like playing second dog to Donovan McNabb.

He had just one quarterback sack, forced just one fumble and picked off only one pass last season, but middle linebacker Stewart Bradley was probably the most important member of the Philadelphia Eagles defense heading into 2009.

Thus the news Monday that Bradley probably will miss this season with a torn ACL he suffered at Sunday night's practice is a definite blow to the Eagles' hopes this season. Bradley had a team-leading 151 tackles in his first full season as a starter last year. With veteran safety Brian Dawkins having left via free agency, Bradley was basically going to be the quarterback of the defense this year as the primary signal caller.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Bradley, a third-round pick in 2007 out of Nebraska, played a big role in the Eagles ranking No. 4 against the run last year. He also came up big in the upset of the Giants in the NFC divisional playoffs with 11 tackles in the Eagles' 23-11 win at the Meadowlands, which sent Philly to the NFC Championship Game. Bradley was projected by many as Pro Bowler this year.

Philadelphia, which is 9/2 odds to win the NFC this season at Bodog, now turns to either second-year player Joe Mays or Omar Gaither, who was a backup to Akeem Jordan at weakside linebacker in 2008 but started 15 games in the middle in 2007; Bradley's emergence forced Gaither's move, and then Jordan eventually beat Gaither out as well.

Mays, who is just 5-foot-11, 245 pounds, was working with the first-team defense in Bradley's spot at Monday's practice. But Mays saw action in just two games last year. Gaither took over Bradley's spot in the nickel package Monday.

This obviously hurts Philly's depth at the position, which already was a bit weak to begin with. Look for the team to try and find a veteran linebacker either as a free agent or via trade. But there's no question the Eagles defense, which already is without late defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, just got a little bit more vulnerable.

Do you still like the Eagles to win? Then bet on them.

Did you hear the news that Eagles running back Brian Westbrook had "minor" ankle surgery on Friday? Westbrook's agent and the team are saying it's just bone spurs, no big deal, and that Westbrook might miss some of training camp but should be ready for the season.

However, some reports out of Philly say that it's actually a pretty major procedure, and if that's the case the Eagles, 14/1 on Bodog to win Super Bowl XLIV, just lost some betting value.

Realize that Westbrook will turn 30 right before the season starts, and that's generally the magic number for when running backs start to show a major decline. And it's not like he wasn't injury-prone last year. He missed two games because of injury, and after a season-high 33 carries in Week 14 against the New York Giants, Westbrook didn't exceed 53 yards rushing in any of the Eagles final six games, including playoffs. He totaled one touchdown in those six games, and that came on a reception in the wild-card round against the Vikings.

So back to this "minor" procedure. First off, Westbrook already had offseason knee surgery. And why have this procedure now if it will cut into training camp time?

Maybe the Eagles knew this was coming, as they drafted Pittsburgh's LeSean McCoy in the second round of April's draft. Other than that, it's Lorenzo Booker and not much else as the team lost Correll Buckhalter in the offseason.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, if you add the career numbers of all the other running backs currently on the Eagles' roster, they are less than the touches or yards from scrimmage Westbrook had during the 2007 season, his best.

"Would the odds be as much in our favor if he wasn't with us? No," Booker said to the Inquirer.

As good as Donovan McNabb is, Westbrook is the guy who makes that Philly offense go. Watch this situation closely before putting down any bets on the 2009 Eagles.

The Arizona Cardinals (11-7 SU and ATS) upset Carolina (-10) to get here, while the Wild-Card Philadelphia Eagles (11-6-1 SU, 12-6 ATS) outworked the top-seeded Giants (-4).

Philadelphia’s presence in the conference title game is no shock. This was the top team in the NFL in efficiency coming out of the highly competitive NFC East. But the Cardinals? They were the only winning team in the NFC West, and they just managed to get their act together at the end of the season after going on a 1-4 SU and ATS skid.

That leaves the Eagles as 4-point road faves (-115) with a total of 47. However, the way Arizona has performed over the past three games, Sunday’s matchup should be very competitive. I’ll pick the Eagles and their stronger play over the full season.

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants: 1 p.m. EST on FOX

Eagles QB Donovan McNabb threw for 300 yards last Sunday against Minnesota to take the win in the first-round; and the Giants QB Eli Manning is coming off a bye week (that could be huge). Both teams are strong defensively and both coaches are super eager to advance to the Conference Championship. Still, the Bodog Sportsbook favors the Giants in this one by -4 and the game's total is at 39.5.

A few betting trends to consider:
Philadelphia is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games;
Philadelphia is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games;
The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Philadelphia's last 6 games on the road;
The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Philadelphia's last 12 games when playing on the road against NY Giants;
NY Giants are 7-1 SU in their last 8 games at home;
NY Giants are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games at home;
The total has gone UNDER in 10 of the NY Giants last 12 games when playing at home against Philadelphia;
NY Giants are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games.

San Diego Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers: 4:45 p.m. EST on CBS

The Pittsburgh Steelers led the N.F.L. in total defense, pass defense and scoring defense, and was second against the run, allowing only 80.2 yards a game. (The Steelers have also allowed only 13.9 points on average per game…that's the lowest in the league, too.) With LaDainian Tomlinson out with a torn groin tendon (more than likely, anyway) and a comparatively weaker defense, QB Philip Rivers better hope that RB Darren Sproles brings his "A" game along with his Velcro-like grip to this matchup if the Bolts want to advance.

A few betting trends to consider:
San Diego is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games;
San Diego is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games;
The total has gone OVER in 16 of San Diego's last 24 games on the road;
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of San Diego's last 6 games when playing Pittsburgh;
Pittsburgh is 10-1 SU in its last 11 games when playing at home against San Diego;
Pittsburgh is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games;
Pittsburgh is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games.
