Martinez, who’s 3-3 with a 4.71 ERA in eight starts against the Cubs, looks to help his new club to a second straight win.

The Cubs are expected to be without slugger Aramis Ramirez for the rest of the series. Ramirez hasn’t played since leaving Saturday’s game in Colorado with shoulder soreness.

After 42 career relief appearances Jeff Samardzija will make his first start for Chicago in this one. The righthander replaces ace Carlos Zambrano, currently on the disabled list with back spasms.

Lee had the AL’s sixth-best ERA but received the league’s eighth-worst run support average. The lefthander allowed three runs or fewer in six of his nine losses, but was backed by five total runs of support in those games.

He should feel spoiled now that he joins an offense that ranks third in the majors with 539 runs.

Lee comes to the Phillies after winning his final three starts for the Indians, posting a 1.44 ERA with two complete games.

San Francisco, trying to win five in a row for the first time since April 19-25, is an NL-best 14-3 at home since June 19.

The Eagles drafted receiver Jeremy Maclin, running back LeSean McCoy, and tight end Cornelius Ingram. Maclin scored 33 touchdowns in a two-year career at Missouri, McCoy rushed for almost 1,500 yards last season at Pitt, while Ingram was Florida’s top tight end before missing last season with a knee injury.

No wonder McNabb is a happy man as camp starts.

Maclin remains unsigned and has yet to report to camp. But McNabb worked out with Maclin during the quarterback’s annual camp in Arizona and said he is not concerned.

Haren has surpassed all expectations from the start of the season. He leads the majors in opponents’ batting average and he’s the only Diamondbacks starter with a winning record.

Haren is 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA in two career starts against Philadelphia, which he hasn’t faced since 2003. Hamels is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA in two starts against Arizona.

It is believed that the Phillies are at the top of the list for who will land Roy Halladay from the Blue Jays.

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi expects the Halladay trade talks will come to a head early next week.

Assuming the Yankees don't want Halladay, they seem pretty content with their current roster.

New York has been very impressive lately, taking over first place and playing well overall.

As long as CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett keep doing what they are doing, the Yankees may just stick with what they got as they chase the AL Pennant.
