Many think that Federer and Rafael Nadal will meet in the U.S. Open final for the first time. It’s the only Grand Slam tennis final in which they’ve never met.

Nadal is pegged at +650 to overcome his recent injuries to take the title.

Andy Murray is another solid bet this year. He has a match record of 53-8 this year and is listed at +333 to win.

Other notables include Novak Djokovic (+1100), who hasn’t been past the quarterfinals at any of this year’s major tournaments, and Andy Roddick (+1100), who is the only U.S. man seeded in the top 20.

Throw in Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (+4000) and Marat Safin and it is clear that Federer's road to another title won't be as easy as one might think.

The U.S. Open marks his first Grand Slam action since May, when his 31-match French Open winning streak ended with a stunning loss to Robin Soderling in the fourth round at Roland Garros.

He skipped Wimbledon, citing tendinitis in both knees, and was only the second man in three decades to not defend his title at All England Club. Federer won, defeating Andy Roddick.

Last year he advanced to the semi-finals, where he lost to Andy Murray. Nadal would complete a career Grand Slam with a title at Flushing Meadows.

It also elevates Andy Murray to the favorite in my opinion.

The Brit is currently 11/4 to win tennis' lone grass-court major. That's second to Federer (4/5), who has won this tournament five teams and might be poised to break Pete Sampras record of 14 Grand Slam titles as well as return to No. 1 in the world off his French Open championship. Federer should be the overwhelming favorite.

But Murray is the big winner of the Nadal news. That's because Murray, now seeded No. 2, was in the same half of the Nadal draw (and thus won't have to play Federer until a possible final). The Spaniard had reached the final at the All England Club in the past three years and routed Murray in straight sets in a 2008 quarterfinal.

Now the highest-rated possible semifinal opponent for Murray is Argentine Juán Martín del Potro, the world No. 5, who is a clay-courter and has only won two career matches at Wimbledon.

Perhaps most important is that Murray is 6-2 in his career against Federer, including two victories in two tries this year and four in a row. It's clear he has confidence against the Swiss star.

Murray also enters having just become the first British champion of the warm-up Queen's Club tournament in 71 years. It was his first-ever grass-court title and continued what has been a great year, with Murray going 40-6 with four titles (second in championships to Nadal).

"I'm playing very well just now," Murray said to reporters. "I feel physically strong."

Obviously history is against Murray, considering no British men's player has won this tournament since Fred Perry in 1936. But at 11/4, put some money down on history finally repeating itself. Think that would be big news in England?

In a news conference today at the All England Club, Nadal told reporters that he is withdrawing from the popular tennis tournament because of tendinitis in his knees. All other Wimbledon competitors will take to the grass courts on Monday, June 25th.

"I'm just not 100 percent," the No. 1-ranked Nadal said. "I'm better than I was a couple of weeks ago, but I just don't feel ready."

That leaves Roger Federer, the favorite at 4/5 odds to win Wimbledon 2009.

Nadal opened his tournament today against Marcos Daniel and was listed at -8000 to win.

Federer is also listed at -8000 in his opening match versus Alberto Martin. Federer is looking to win his first French Open championship and tie Pete Sampras with a record 14th major singles title.

So, for the first time since 1970 the top eight seeds in the men's draw advanced to the fourth round at the 2009 Australian Open.

On Monday, No. 1 ranked Rafael Nadal will play No. 13 Fernando Gonzalez; No. 4 Andy Murray will play No. 14 Fernando Verdasco; No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will play James Blake; and No. 6 Gilles Simon will meet No. 12 Gael Monfils.

After leading the first two sets, the matchup between the game's greatest player and sixth-ranked Murray was postponed by rain until Sunday afternoon.

When the game picked up it appeared as though Nadal would take command. When Murray repeatedly failed to capitalize on break point potential in the second game of a fourth set, it looked as though Nadal could hold on and steal a win in a fifth set.

But for Rafael Nadal a comeback was not to be as Murray quickly regained composure and finished off the four-set victory.

With the victory 21-year-old Murray has earned his first trip to a Grand Slam final and will face the four-time defending champion in Federer.

Heading into the rain delay, sixth-ranked Andy Murray of Scotland leads world number one Rafael Nadal 6-2, 7-6, 2-3 as they fight for a chance to take on Roger Federer in the US Open Final.

A worn down Nadal fell behind early and has struggled to earn his way back as he looks to add to an impressive 2008 campaign.

With victories at the French Open, Wimbledon and most recently the Beijing Olympics, fatigue may have been an issue early for the 22-year-old Spaniard.

Murray, on the other hand, has played well in his first career grand slam semifinal.

The jury is still out on who exactly the rain delay will benefit, but with an extra night to rest, Nadal may come back stronger while Murray starts feeling the pressure.

Nadal's most recent win on Saturday came at the hands of Serbian 22-year-old Viktor Troicki. With the 6-4, 6-3, 6-0 decision under his belt Nadal will move on to American Sam Querrey in Round 4.
