The mean old Elizabeth Lambert is finally seeing some consequences for her crappy behavior. New Mexico's coach Kit Vela announced that the bully player has been suspended indefinitely.

"Liz is a quality student-athlete, but in this instance, her actions clearly crossed the line of fair play and good sportsmanship," Vela said.

If you haven't seen the footage yet, watch the video to see New Mexico's Lambert punch and hair pull her way through a game against Brigham Young University during the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Championship.

Lambert's violent plays went unnoticed by referees until 77 minutes into the game, when Lambert was the only player to be penalized in the game, earning a yellow card for colliding with a BYU player.

"My actions were uncalled for," Lambert said in a statement released by New Mexico. "I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation."

Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca comes just a few weeks after the Mexicans’ 5-0 trouncing of the U.S. in the Gold Cup final. The defeat was not all that surprising for the Americans, who were without all of their European-based regulars.

What was shocking was the manner in which the B team was torn apart in a second-half onslaught that allowed Mexico to celebrate its first victory over the USA in 10 years.

To reestablish their dominance in CONCACAF, the Americans must now venture into enemy territory and do something they have never done in 23 previous visits to Mexico, win.

As things stand, Mexico is far from assured of finishing in the top three in CONCACAF’s final qualifying and earning an automatic berth to South Africa.

For USA, a spot in the finals should be all but secure barring a huge meltdown.

The world's biggest party is fast approaching, and we are not talking Paris Hilton’s birthday. In less than 12 months, football fans will journey to South Africa, bringing the World Cup to Africa for the first time.

There is still a lot to be decided but it is never too early to check out who’s in and who’s on the outside looking in.

Now, Brazil technically has not qualified yet but it would be real shocker if they did not. Currently they are listed as the tourney favorite at +500.

The Italians (+1100) will be there of course and should go deep since no one defends better than they do.

If you are wondering about the Americans (+4000), they are in good shape to qualify as they currently sit in second place in CONCACAF's qualifying stage.

The one sure bet is the host nation of South Africa (+8000) will be there ready to score a few upsets.

Yes, it was weird. L.A. Galaxy fans booed their star player, David Beckham. Loud boos were heard through the stadium each time Beckham made a play.

The angry crowd booed him and called him traitor because Beckham had spent most of 2009 away from the Galaxy team on loan to the international team of AC Milan. Beckham had said he would prefer to stay on with AC Milan instead of keeping on with the L.A. Galaxy soccer team. He has also tried without success to get out of his contract with the Galaxy – and now, he's probably really wishing he was able to do it.

The Chicago Tribune reports, "Many soccer fans held up signs deriding Beckham, including ones that read 'Go Home Fraud' with a line crossing out his jersey number, 23 and 'Hey Becks, Here Before You, Here After You, Here Despite You.'

Be sure to get your soccer betting in the Bodog Sportsbook.

David Beckham was booed like one boos a lover who stays away for too long. It was not an expression of hate but one more of severe disappointment over being away too long.

If you're looking for betting value, it doesn't get much more undervalued than American soccer. Team USA has the talent and money to compete internationally, but at the professional league level (the only place where it counts in the public eye), soccer has been greeted in the U.S. with the same enthusiasm as the metric system.

That probably won't change in the aftermath of Team USA's outstanding performance at the Confederations Cup in South Africa. The Americans reached the final by upsetting Spain 2-0 on Wednesday, cashing in as +900 underdogs. Then on Sunday, they scored twice on Brazil (-500) before succumbing to a furious second-half onslaught and losing the championship 3-2.

Did you see this game? Team USA was all over Brazil like a wet blanket in the first half. You have to feel pretty good about this team's chances going forward, especially with Everton's Tim Howard in goal.

Soccer fans are salivating because an unprecedented number of top-flight matches will take place in the United States and Canada all summer long.

Many of the 101 games in the 51-day period called "The Summer of Soccer" involve Major League Soccer, whose clubs will take on popular European and Mexican clubs such as FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Chelsea FC, Club America, and Real Madrid.

One of the big highlights of the event is the long-awaited opening of the Cowboys’ Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which will host its first sporting event on July 19, a CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal doubleheader.

The winning team will receive €7 million, or about $9.8 million in cold, hard cash. The shiny European Cup will look pretty good in their trophy case, too.

The odds are slightly in United’s favor to take home the plunder. They’re +155 on the traditional betting line with Barcelona at +165 and the draw (after 90 minutes plus injury time) at +225. This is a single-game eliminator, so they’ll go to extra time and a shootout if need be – like last year’s thrilling win by Man U over their Premiership rivals from Chelsea. This year’s United team is so good, rumor has it that both Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov will be on the bench to start the game. Barca’s back is up against the wall.

The Champions League semifinal between Manchester United and Arsenal produced five goals; Chelsea and FC Barcelona are stuck on zero after the first leg of their two-game, total-goal series. They’ll try to find the back of the net in Wednesday’s second leg (2:45 p.m. Eastern) at Stamford Bridge.

The odds for this match at press time were virtually the same as they were Tuesday for Manchester United at Arsenal. The visitors have a slight edge at +155 to Chelsea’s +165, with the draw priced at +230 and the under tagged at –120 on a total of 2.5 goals. Blues manager Guus Hiddink got a premium defensive effort (Barca supporters would say “dirty”) out of his squad in the first leg; they failed to get an away goal, but they’ll have an easier time Wednesday without defenders Carles Puyol and Rafael Marquez in the way.

Sir Alex Ferguson called it a perfect result. Close enough: Manchester United beat Arsenal 1-0 in the first leg of last week’s Champions League semifinal at Old Trafford. Now Ferguson’s Red Devils can advance to the final in Rome with either a draw or a win this Tuesday afternoon (2:45 p.m. Eastern) at Emirates Stadium.

At press time, the same +155 price tag was applied to away United and home Arsenal, with the draw pegged at +230. The draw (after 90 minutes plus injury time) would be the classic value play in this situation. The two teams are equally valued, and Ferguson is motivated by the score from the first leg to go into something of a defensive shell – the word “counterattack” is being thrown about in the press. Center back Rio Ferdinand’s return to the lineup gives United (and the draw) that much more power at the pay window.

Not that the Red Devils wanted to lose, but they must have bigger fish to fry – like nailing down the Premiership title. United are tied with Liverpool on top of the table with 71 points (with two games in hand) on 22 wins, five draws and four losses. They’re also massive –500 favorites for Wednesday’s matchup at Old Trafford against 14th-place Portsmouth (9-10-13).

Don’t forget, that’s –500 using the standard home-away-draw betting line for soccer. Portsmouth is priced at +1200 to pull off what would be a dramatic upset; even nailing down a draw at the Theatre of Dreams is a tall task at +500. United won nine of their last 10 meetings with one draw, which took place in 2007 at Fratton Park as Wayne Rooney sat out injured.
