There is now an explanation for tennis champ Andre Agassi's energy on the courts. In Agassi's upcoming autobiography, he admits he used crystal meth in 1997, failed a drug test and then lied to the Association of Tennis Professionals about how the drug had gotten in his system.

Agassi writes in his autobiography, Open, that he sent a letter to the ATP tour to explain the positive test, saying he accidentally drank from a soda spiked with meth by his assistant "Slim."

"Then I come to the central lie of the letter," Agassi writes. "I say that recently I drank accidentally from one of Slim's spiked sodas, unwittingly ingesting his drugs. I ask for understanding and leniency and hastily sign it: Sincerely."

Agassi said the ATP accepted his lie and dropped the issue.

In the book, Agassi claims that at a low point in his life, when he was No. 141 in the world, he was sitting at home when Slim introduced him to meth. For the next year, they did meth, one of the most addictive drugs known to man, together.

"I just tell people, this book is honest," says Agassi. "It lives up to the title. It's my life, for better or worse. Get ready, buckle up, and keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times."

If No. 2 Serena Williams beats No. 4 Elena Dementieva in today’s semifinals, and No. 3 Venus Williams gets past Dinara Safina, they would set up the fourth all-Williams title match at Wimbledon and second in a row. As it is, one Williams or the other has won seven of the past nine championships at Wimbledon.

Venus (-550) leads Safina (+375) 2-1 in previous meetings, while Serena (-550) leads Dementieva (+375) 5-3. Of more significance might be these statistics: Venus is 12-4 in Grand Slam semifinals with seven titles, and Safina is 3-1 with zero titles; Serena is 13-2 in Grand Slam semifinals with 10 titles, and Dementieva is 2-5 with zero titles.

There have been seven all-Williams championship matches at majors, with Serena holding a 5-2 lead. Overall, the sisters are tied 10-10.

Up next for Roger Federer in today's quarterfinals is Ivo Karlovic, who makes a living smacking aces and service winners.

The 6-foot-10 Croat has not been broken once in 79 service games this tournament and leads all players with 137 aces.

Still, Federer is a heavy favorite, listed at -1400 to win the match.

The quarterfinal round features players of eight nationalities, with five Grand Slam tournament winners and four former No. 1s.

In other matches Andy Murray (-1400) takes on Juan Carlos Ferrero (+675) of Spain.

On Court 1, two veterans will try to get back to the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time in four years. Andy Roddick, the runner-up to Federer in 2004-05, takes on Lleyton Hewitt, who won here in 2002.

The fourth matchup features the oldest remaining player against the youngest, with the 31-year-old Tommy Haas taking on 22-year-old Novak Djokovic.

UPDATE: Looks like Federer being the huge fave was the right thing for oddsmakers to do, he made quick (very quick) work of Karlovic, beating him in straight sets.

Top seed Dinara Safina needed all her battling qualities to beat former champion Amelie Mauresmo 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 under the closed Centre Court roof in the fourth round at Wimbledon on Monday.

Next Safina (-250) will play unseeded German Sabine Lisicki (+180) for a place in the semi-finals.

Third seed Venus Williams booked her place in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon on Monday after Serbian 13th seed Ana Ivanovic retired injured in their fourth-round clash.

Venus is a heavy -1000 favorite to beat Agnieszka Radwanska in her next match and move on to the semi-finals.

Likewise, Serena Williams reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals after defeating Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-1. Serena will play Victoria Azarenka next and is pegged as a -350 fave to win that match.

Elena Dementieva and Francesca Schiavone will square off in the other match of the day.

UPDATE: Venus has knocked off Radwanska in straight sets to secure a spot in the semis.

Looking at this year's Wimbledon tournament on the women's side, it seems like a very safe bet to say a Williams sister is going to win.

Serena is the favorite at +175, but Venus is not that far behind at +250 and how can you bet against the 29-year-old who has reached seven Wimbledon finals in the last decade?

The strongest challenge to Venus' dominance is likely to come from across the breakfast table at her Wimbledon base in the leafy south-west London village.

It has been six years since Serena last won Wimbledon but the world number two still has the potential to beat any of her peers, including Venus.

So far, so good this year for the sisters.

Venus recovered from an early stumble on the slick grass Tuesday and defeated Stefanie Voegele 6-3, 6-2.

Federer tied Pete Sampras' record of 14 major singles titles and became the sixth man to complete a career Grand Slam.

Federer, listed at -500 on Sunday, was at his best, completely outplaying No. 23-seeded Robin Soderling (+350) of Sweden en route to a 6-1, 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory in a French Open final that lacked suspense but not significance.

Federer is now pegged as a +100 favorite to win Wimbledon this year.

On Saturday in the women's final Svetlana Kuznetsova took advantage of No. 1-ranked Dinara Safina's assorted errors and won the French Open final 6-4, 6-2. The 74-minute match ended, fittingly, with Safina's seventh double-fault.

Safina was the one who was supposed to finally make her breakthrough after losing in the women's final at last year's French Open and this year's Australian Open.

Safina, who is a -250 favorite, holds a 7-4 career edge over Kuznetsova, including a win in last year's French Open semifinals.

The two go back about a decade, to age 12 or 13, when Kuznetsova was living in St. Petersburg, and Safina in Moscow, where her father was the director of a tennis club and her mother was a coach who started Marat Safin on his way to titles at the 2000 U.S. Open and 2005 Australian Open.

Safina has won major semifinals before but never a major final, losing in straight sets to Ana Ivanovic at last year’s French Open and to Serena Williams at this year’s Australian Open.

Many in the tennis world have been questioning Safina's No. 1 ranking, so a victory over old pal Kuznetsova on Saturday would do the trick in proving it is correct.
Safina has won 20 of 21 matches since rising to No. 1 in April. The only woman to defeat her in that span, 2004 U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, will get another crack at Safina on Saturday in the third all-Russian major final in tennis history.

Kuznetsova seemed well on her way to an easy semifinal victory, but she stumbled a bit before getting past No. 30 Samantha Stosur of Australia 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3.

Kuznetsova, seeded seventh, looked fresh 24 hours after beating Serena Williams in a grueling quarterfinal. Kuznetsova won her only major title at the 2004 U.S. Open and reached the French Open final in 2006, when she lost to Justine Henin.
Federer, listed at +450 to win, is trying to capture his first French Open championship to complete a career Grand Slam and tie Pete Sampras' record of 14 major titles.

Federer lost to Rafael Nadal in the past three finals at Roland Garros, but the Spaniard is no longer around this year after being upset by Soderling in the fourth round.

Del Potro faces a monumental task against Federer as not only will he have the crowd against him but he has never won a set in five previous matches against the Swiss world number two.
