Sports betting can be challenging, but sports bettors had to be happy with the way The Tour Championship played out because the day ended as a win-win situation for two of golf's greatest players and here's why:

Going into the FedEx Cup final Tiger Woods (1/1) was the favorite to win. Woods ended the day on Sunday 4 strokes behind Phil Mickelson and in second place at The Tour Championship, but as the season's points leader Woods therefore wins the FedEx Cup and the $10 million in cash. As for Mickelson, his 5-under 65 today earned him The Tour Championship win.

"So let's get this right. Tiger shoots 69 and I shoot 65. He gets a cheque for $10m and I get one for … I'm joking, of course," Mickelson said.

And what did Woods have to say for himself?

"The whole idea of the FedEx Cup was to play consistently through the year and position yourself for the play-offs and I managed to do that. I just didn't get it done today," he said.

Sean O'Hair took 3rd place, while Padraig Harrington and Kenny Perry tied for 4th place.

One week after barely qualifying for golf’s version of the playoffs, Heath Slocum won the opening event at The Barclays with a 20-foot par putt on the final hole for a one-shot victory.

Slocum, who was listed at +4000 to win, closed with a 4-under 67 and won at Liberty National when Steve Stricker caught the lip with his 10-foot par putt.

Tiger Woods (+250) was among those who finished one shot behind. Playing in the group ahead of Slocum and Stricker, he hit six-iron to seven feet for a birdie putt to tie for the lead. But just like he has done a lot lately, Woods missed the putt.

Ernie Els (+6600) and Padraig Harrington (+2500) also finished one shot behind in an excellent start to the FedExCup.

Slocum came in as No. 124 out of 125 qualifiers, and the victory puts him at No. 3 in the standings.

Was there any doubt?

Before most of us got home from work to watch the PGA Championship, Tiger Woods shot a 5-under 67, building a one-shot lead over defending champion Padraig Harrington (+800) for an ideal start.

Not since Carnoustie two years ago has Woods managed to break 70 in the opening round of a major. Not since St. Andrews four years ago has he had the lead to himself after the first round.

Does anyone even have a shot at knocking off the -140 favorite?

Phil Mickelson (+3500) struggled off the tee and with his short putts in his round of 74.

In the traditional group of major champions this year, Lucas Glover (+5000) was the only one to break par with a 71. Masters champion Angel Cabrera had a 76, while British Open winner Stewart Cink (+7000) had two double bogeys in his round of 73.

Tiger Woods has one shot left at the PGA Championship to win a major this season.

He already has five victories on the PGA Tour, pushing his career total to 70 last week at Firestone.

This is the sixth time Woods has come to the PGA Championship without a major championship to his name. He won 10 years ago at Medinah and he won two years ago at Southern Hills, where he tied a record with his 63 in the second round.

Woods is listed at +150 to win the final major of the season this week.

Despite playing only one tournament in a seven-week period, Phil Mickelson, arguably the second-best golfer in the world, is still getting plenty of respect from Bodog as he is listed at +2200 to win.

Mickelson will without doubt be as big a sentimental favorite to the crowd in Minnesota as he was to New Yorkers at the U.S. Open.

Tiger Woods closed with a 5-under 65 on Sunday, becoming the first player in PGA Tour history to win seven times on the same golf course. It also gave him back-to-back victories going into the PGA Championship, his last chance to win a major this year.

As for Padraig Harrington? He had what only could be described as a stunning meltdown on Sunday to finish tied for second with Robert Allenby.

Woods, who has won the Bridgestone Invitational seven times in 10 starts and has never finished out of the top five, closed out his remarkable afternoon in style with a six-foot birdie putt.

Woods won for only the sixth time in his career when trailing by three shots or more.

Hunter Mahan, who shot a 66, tied for fourth with Angel Cabrera.

How can't you bet on Tiger to win heading into the PGA Championship this weekend?

If he were any other golfer in the world, Tiger Woods would be having a tremendous year.

But because he is Tiger, it has not been a tremendous year. Not yet, at least.

His victory in Sunday’s Buick Open, while impressive, does nothing to alter that perception. All that can salvage Woods’ season is a victory in a few weeks in the PGA Championship at Hazeltine.

He is the +175 favorite but that should be no surprise as he has been the favorite at every major he’s participated in for more than a decade.

But based on his inability to come through at Augusta National, Bethpage Black, and Turnberry in 2009, the aura of invincibility is not there as it was in the past.

It would not be a shock to see him go majorless for the first time since 2004. It might not even be a shock if he failed to finish in the top 10.

Yes folks – it's the hottest thing on Google Trends right now. People are furiously searching "Tiger Woods fart" because, well, we don't know – but we're writing about it to get more traffic. Who's more pathetic? Us for writing about it, or you for searching for it? So apparently, Tiger Woods ripped it up at the Buick Open Golf Tournament, (the 18th hole, to be exact).

The school of thought going right now is that the fart did come from Tiger himself, although there is speculation that a sound guy, or someone with an iPhone iFart application was feeling saucy. Whoever the culprit was, both Tiger and his caddy Steve Williams thought it was awesome.

Apparently, Tiger has farted at other golf tournaments. The Inquisitor did some digging and found that Woods had let one rip before. They report, "Strangely this isn’t the first time Woods has sealed an event with a fart, having also farted when he won the Arnold Palmer invitational in March."

Unfortunately, we can't bring you the video, as the crusty old PGA is claiming copyright to it. Very unfair. Can't they give us the Tiger Woods fart? We don't ask for much in life. Anyway, not that you care but Tiger Woods won his third Buick Open after shooting a 3 under par in the final round.

It started out badly for anyone betting on Tiger Woods, but in the end the best golfer on the planet won the Buick Open for a third time and claimed his 69th PGA Tour victory.

Woods, who was the tourney favorite, shot a 3-under 69 and coasted to a three-shot victory with a 20-under 268 total at Warwick Hills.

Tiger improved to 36-1 when he has the outright lead after 54 holes. He has four wins this season, which is twice as many as anyone else on the PGA Tour.

Roland Thatcher (64), Greg Chalmers (68), and John Senden (70) tied for second.

With the 69 wins, Tiger trails just Jack Nicklaus (73) and Sam Snead (82).

Woods will play at the Bridgestone Invitational this week before going to Hazeltine for the PGA Championship, his final chance to win a major this year.

So far it does not look good.

Woods (+350) played a lot like the guy who didn’t make the cut at the British Open.

He shot a 1-under 71 on Thursday at the Buick Open, his first tournament since disappointing at Turnberry.

Woods finished the first round tied for 128th on putts inside 10 feet and eight shots back of leader Steve Lowery (+2000).

If Woods fails to break 70 in the second round this morning, he will put himself in danger of missing cuts in consecutive tournaments for the first time as a pro.

John Senden (+1600) also did well, making five straight birdies in the morning and finishing with nine to end up only a shot off the lead.

Y.E. Yang, James Nitties, Vaughn Taylor, and Brian Vranesh were two strokes back with 65s.

So now that you saw Tiger Woods play like a mortal at the British Open, is he still your bet heading into this week’s Buick Open?

Tiger heads to Michigan trying to gear up to take his run at the final major of the year. It will be interesting to see if he swings like he did in his three wins, or like he did in his three major losses.

Regardless, Woods is the favorite to win the Buick Open, listed at +137 when players teed off.

Looking for a reason to tune in other than Tiger? What about John Daly?

Daly's rebirth continues this weekend in familiar territory. If you recall, this is where he unleashed that infamous beer-can tee shot of last year.

It would be great to see him challenging on Sunday again, but at +15000 to win don’t get your hopes up.
