Even before the teams took to the field, the winless Tennessee Titans had to know that they were in for a world of hurt against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. But a 59-0 thrashing is downright humiliating. In fact, it's the Titans WORST loss in franchise history.

Last year, the Titans' 13-3 record was the best in the NFL. This year's 0-6 record puts Tennessee in the basement.

Brady had six touchdown passes on the day — five in the second quarter — and threw for 380 yards to lead the Patriots to the NFL's biggest margin of victory in over 30 years. Wes Welker and Randy Moss showed up big time as well. Welker caught 10 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, while Moss caught eight passes for 129 yards and three touchdowns.

"You never go into a game thinking it's going to be like this," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. "It's just our day today."

Bettors who jumped on this on had to like the outcome as well. The Patriots were a 9-point favorite in the game and easily covered the spread. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (38.5).

As the 4.5-point underdog New York Jets prepare to take on the Houston Texans in Week 1, they welcome another QB to the mix.

Kevin O’Connell's arrival from the Detroit Lions gives the Jets four quarterbacks on the roster – rookie starter Mark Sanchez, veteran Kellen Clemens, O’Connell, and Erik Ainge. O’Connell didn’t throw a pass in two series in Detroit’s preseason finale at Buffalo last Thursday night.

In Buffalo, the team welcomes new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. Despite this move being so close to the regular season, the players are confident they'll be ready for the 11-point favored New England Patriots next Monday night.

The Miami Dolphins travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons, looking to keep winning after a perfect 4-0 preseason.

The Falcons are 4-point home favorites and are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games in Week 1.

Now that Tom Brady is healthy again, will you pick him to come first in most gross passing yards this season?

If so, you are not really going out on a limb because he is the favorite at +450 to do so.

Brady’s numbers in limited play in the Patriots’ preseason opener looked pretty good for a quarterback who hadn’t taken a live snap since last September, and was returning from major reconstructive surgery. There is still a long way to go and we all know that preseason and regular season are two different worlds.

Backers must have been pretty happy that their superstar QB is starting to look like the Tom of old. Now it is time to see how he progresses in the next three preseason games.

Philip Rivers (+600) will be right there with Brady, but when you have a receiver like Randy Moss to throw to how can you bet against Tom?

The preseason can be a showcase for a lot of new coaches and players, although it does not mean much if you can't roll it over into the games that actually matter. It can also be a time for players that were injured last season to finally see some game action again.

The biggest name that people will be interested in seeing this preseason will be Tom Brady. How will the superstar QB for the Patriots look after sitting out all last season with an injury?

Then there are the rookies. How will Matt Stafford look for the Lions in his first preseason action?

Coaches who will be in the spotlight early will be Jim Caldwell for the Colts, Eric Mangini for the Browns, and Rex Ryan for the Jets. All are starting fresh, and in the case of Caldwell he is replacing Tony Dungy.

Will Terrell Owens fit in with the Bills at wide receiver?

Is the juggernaut back? Oddsmakers sure think so, as the Patriots are the Bodog favorite odds to win the Super Bowl this season, and that New England offense looks awfully good.

Of course everything starts with Tom Brady, who is healthy by all accounts. In fact, Brady mentioned this week that he even would like to play in all four exhibition games, although I'm guessing Bill Belichick has different ideas; Brady didn't play a snap in the preseason last year before suffering that season-ending knee injury in Week 1 against the Chiefs.

The Pats have added running back Fred Taylor and receiver Joey Galloway to Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk. It will be a big upset if this offense doesn't lead the league in scoring as it did in breaking nearly every record two seasons ago. Who cares that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is gone? The one concern might be Brady's backup – thus the rumors that the Pats would sign Michael Vick. And New England did sign a veteran quarterback, albeit Andrew Walter. He and untested Kevin O’Connell will battle for the No. 2 spot. The fact that it's those two guys behind Brady should tell you how confident the team is in Brady's health.

Will Tom Brady lead all QBs in most passing yards this year?
Get your NFL player props at Bodog.com!

On defense, look for the D-Line to be dominant because both Richard Seymour and Vince Wilfork are playing for contracts and the Pats just traded for former Pro Bowl end Derrick Burgess of the Raiders (Burgess may play linebacker but then move to the line on passing downs). The defense might miss Mike Vrabel (traded to the Chiefs in the Matt Cassel trade) a bit, but Jerod Mayo is a rising star, and Adalius Thomas has looked like a beast in camp after not playing after Week 10 last season due to injury. The one concern might be a secondary that allowed the second-most TD passes in the league this year, although New England did add veteran Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden.

Here is the Patriots' 2009 schedule, and we'll break it down after:
Mon, Sept. 14 vs. Buffalo Bills, 7 p.m.
Sun, Sept. 20 at New York Jets, 1 p.m.
Sun, Sept. 27 vs. Atlanta Falcons, 1 p.m.
Sun, Oct. 4 vs. Baltimore Ravens, 1 p.m.
Sun, Oct. 11 at Denver Broncos, 4:15 p.m.
Sun, Oct. 18 vs. Tennessee Titans, 4:15 p.m.
Sun, Oct. 25 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (London), 1 p.m.
Week 8: Bye
Nov. 8 vs. Miami Dolphins, 1 p.m.
Nov. 15 at Indianapolis Colts, 8:20 p.m.
Nov. 22 vs. New York Jets, 4:15 p.m.
Nov. 30 at New Orleans Saints, 8:30 p.m.
Dec. 6 at Miami Dolphins, 8:20 p.m.
Dec. 13 vs. Carolina Panthers, 1 p.m.
Dec. 20 at Buffalo Bills, 1 p.m.
Dec. 27 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars, 1 p.m.
Jan. 3 at Houston Texans, 1 p.m.

Strength of schedule: 3rd (opponents combined to go 151-105, .590, in 2008)
Projected record: 11-5
Bodog over/under total: 11 1/2
Bodog odds to win AFC East: 2/9
Bodog odds to win AFC: 3/1
Bodog odds to win Super Bowl XLIV: 4/1

If you go by the opponents' winning percentage of .590 from 2008, this ranks as the most difficult schedule the Patriots have had since Bill Belichick became head coach in 2000. But I would argue that AFC East teams Miami and the Jets overachieved last year, which is sort of skewing that mark.

Think that Monday night opener featuring Brady's return and Terrell Owens' debut in Buffalo will get any ratings? Being as Buffalo has dropped 11 in a row to the Pats and was 0-6 in the AFC East last year, I think it’s safe to say Brady's first game back will be a success. With three of the first four games and four of the first six at Gillette Stadium, the Pats should get off to a fast start and take early control of the AFC East.

It's a little unique that the Pats start with two division games — the last two times the Patriots opened the season against division opponents they started 2-0 (2006 and 1999) — and then don't face another division opponent until Week 9. And then there's only one divisional game in the final four weeks.

That Week 5 game against Denver will be teacher against student as McDaniels' Broncos host New England. Will the Pats have any after-effects from traveling to London for that Tampa Bay "home" game in Week 7? That bye week following should eliminate any hangover.

Of course the game of the year, as it usually is, will be the Patriots and Colts, with New England visiting Indy for the fourth consecutive year (including playoffs). Indianapolis has won four of the past five meetings overall.

Last year, the Patriots went 11-5 and didn't even make the playoffs, becoming the first team since the currently 12-team playoff format (adopted in 1990) to sit out the postseason with 11 wins. That certainly won't happen again, and in fact this team will win the AFC East and likely be in the AFC Championship Game.

Hard to believe it is almost time to start betting on NFL games again!

As camps open, bettors will face a mountain of information from writers and TV experts. Most of this information is useless for sports bettors. So while you wait for the real games to start, it is a good time to reflect back on how you did last season and try to learn from your mistakes.

If you figure out the reasons why you lost your shirt, that can help you prepare for the upcoming season.

Did you bet too early in the week, or did you miss out because you waiting until the last moment?

Are you one to follow your gut, or do you trust the weekly betting trends?

Nobody was ready for Tom Brady's injury and the demise of the New England Patriots. That should change this season as the Pats are listed at +400 to win the Super Bowl.

Even though summer has just begun, it is never too early to talk about NFL futures.

Now is a great time to start thinking about who is going to win the Super Bowl in 2010.

Of course, it would be a safe move to not make any wagers on the biggest payout odds that lie with the Detroit Lions – considering they did not win a single game last year and there is no way they have what it takes for a quick turnaround.

The Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers are a good bet. So are the New England Patriots, even though they missed the playoffs last year. With Tom Brady back, they should be in it to win it in 2010.

Strangely enough the Dallas Cowboys are getting decent odds to win despite not winning a playoff game in a decade and missing the postseason in 2009.

It is never too early for NFL futures.

Why on earth would sportsbooks peg the Pats as the faves when they did not even make the playoffs this past season?

Oddsmakers are clearly expecting quarterback Tom Brady to make a strong return after missing almost all of last season to a knee injury.

With so much of the offseason behind them and so many of the pieces in place, the question now becomes, will the ’09 Patriots live up to all the expectations?

Imagine being a defensive coordinator and having to figure out a way to cover Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and Joey Galloway.

Then you have to slow the four-headed monster of Fred Taylor, Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, and Kevin Faulk, and if you somehow do get all of that covered, Chris Baker, Alex Smith, Benjamin Watson or David Thomas could do some damage.

New England quarterback Tom Brady practiced in front of the media with the Patriots for the first time this week, and all accounts are that Brady is showing no lingering effects from the knee injury and following surgery that cost him all but part of a handful of minutes of the 2008 NFL season.

"I feel as good as I can possibly feel," Brady said to reporters at the Patriots' OTAs.

Most pundits assumed the Pats were finished when Tom Terrific went down in the first quarter of Week 1 against the Chiefs, but backup Matt Cassel turned out to be a revelation in leading New England to an 11-5 record, just missing a return to the playoffs.

But now Cassel is in, ironically enough, Kansas City. The Pats had franchised him to get some potential trade value but couldn't afford to pay two quarterbacks some $29 million combined this season once they believed Brady was healthy. But with Bodog listing the Pats at just 5/1 odds to win Super Bowl XLIV, isn't that putting too much stock in Brady?

After all, his new backup is Kevin O'Connell. No, not the actor who married John Stamos' former supermodel wife, but a second-year player from San Diego State who in two games in mop-up duty as a rookie completed 4-of-6 passes for 23 yards in 2008. Even Cassel had more experience than that.

It's surprising the Patriots didn't bring in a veteran to backup Brady, and guys like Rex Grossman and J.P. Losman are probably the best of what's still out there. But maybe Bill Belichick and Co. believe so much in the Patriot Way that they think O'Connell can become Cassel if called upon.

"I just have to be ready," O'Connell said to reporters. "Matt was a good example of that."

But at an NFL-low 5/1 odds to win the Super Bowl (only the Steelers are also under double digits), that's an awful lot of faith in both Brady's knee and the Patriots possibly striking backup gold again.

File this story under crazy, but Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen apparently hired Tony Soprano to protect their wedding day from the prying lenses of the paparazzi. Apparently, the couple had an exclusive photo deal with a Brazilian magazine for their Costa Rica ceremony this weekend and any photos snagged by paparazzi could have seriously killed the deal.

Perez Hilton is reporting that two photographers Rolando Aviles and Yuri Cortez, managed to get a neighbor to allow them to shoot the ceremony from a nearby balcony.

Bodyguards chased the two away, only to curiously invite the two back to Gisele's home when they caught up with them.

"Tom Brady just wants to talk to you. It's OK, nothing's going to happen," said one bodyguard.

When they went back, they realized they were facing an ambush. Aviles and Cortez managed to get back to their vehicle when they began to drive away, Aviles saw one of Brady's bodyguards draw a pistol. Shots were fired and one went through the back windsheild, narrowly missing them.

"I thought this was going to be my last job," said Aviles. "Thank God I'm alright. At that moment, I thought I was going to die. The bullet went between us, missing our heads. I said, 'They're going to kill us,' and that's when I hunched down to cover myself."
