Brock Lesnar is ill and his fighting career may be over, according to UFC's Dana White.

The UFC heavyweight champion was sick with mono and had to cancel a fight. However, Lesnar took a turn for the worse after collapsing in Canada last week. White has told TMZ today that Lesnar is "very, very sick" with some sort of intestinal disorder that will require "major surgery." Lesnar is currently being treated at a North Dakota hospital, but White has said that he is not suffering from cancer – or AIDS. Thanks for clearing that up, Dana! White is also trying to get Lesnar treated at the famous Mayo Clinic.

There's a possibility Lesnar will never fight again," White said.

The main event at UFC 104 on Saturday night pits Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Bodog's UFC betting odds have the light heavyweight champion Machida as the big favorite at -450 with “Shogun” listed at +300 for the upset.

Rua is no run-of-the-mill +300 underdog, though. The former PRIDE champion has one of the most impressive resumes in MMA. He has built an 18-3 professional record with signature wins over Quinton Jackson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Alistair Overeem, and most recently Chuck Liddell at UFC 97 in April.

The biggest knock against Rua heading into UFC 104 is his stamina. In his 21 professional fights, he has gone the distance just twice (both wins) .

UFC president Dana White seems more interested in dispelling the idea that his main event is a mismatch, and he disagrees with the odds.

Guess we will see what happens on Saturday night at the Staples Center.

The announcement was made Monday and I somehow missed it? Darn. If you are going to be in Las Vegas on Nov. 21 then plan to get a ticket to UFC 106 being held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is defending his title against an undefeated Shane Carwin and by all accounts it's going to be awesome.

"Brock Lesnar has been tearing through everyone over the last year," UFC President Dana White told the Las Vegas Sun. "But in Shane Carwin, he's not only fighting someone as big as he is, he's fighting someone who has ended all of his fights in less than three minutes. This is literally the biggest heavyweight title fight ever and may also be the most explosive."

Carwin is 6-foot-3 and weighs 262 pounds. Lesnar is also 6-foot-3 and weighs 265 pounds.

"I was extremely excited when I got the news that I was fighting Brock," said Carwin. "I couldn't even sleep that night."

And what does Lesnar think of Carwin?

"I'm looking forward to fighting Shane Carwin. He's undefeated and I’m the man who is going to put an end to that," Lesnar said.

Tito Ortiz is also making his return to the UFC that same night in a fight with UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman.

Tickets for UFC 106 go on sale Saturday, Sept. 19 at noon MDT and it will also be available live on pay-per-view on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, BellTV, Shaw Communications and Viewer's Choice Canada.

The biggest underdog on Saturday’s UFC 100 card is Paulo Thiago (+400), the relative unknown from Brazil who scored a major upset over Josh Koscheck (–410) back in February. That was Thiago’s UFC debut after racking up a perfect 10-0 record in his native country.

Thiago’s getting no love as he prepares to face Jon Fitch (–600), whose only loss in 10 fights in the Octagon was last year to Georges St-Pierre. Fitch and Koscheck are training partners at the American Kickboxing Academy, so Fitch will have the information advantage; he’s also a superior fighter to Koscheck, who was dominating Thiago until the underdog scored a surprise first-round TKO.

Observers may be devaluing Thiago’s win over Koscheck because of the controversial referee stoppage. But there is a clash of styles here that definitely favors Fitch, a supreme defensive grappler from Purdue who should be able to thwart Thiago’s jiu-jitsu attack.

The latest season of The Ultimate Fighter featured Dan Henderson coaching a team of Americans against Michael Bisping’s Team UK. This Saturday, the two middleweights will lock horns at UFC 100 in Las Vegas, with Henderson the solid –215 favorite over Bisping (+175).

Bisping only has one loss on his record, two years ago by a controversial split decision against Rashad Evans. He responded by dropping from light heavyweight and beating three straight opponents, most recently Chris Leben at last year’s UFC 89 card in England. But Henderson (24-7 lifetime) is a highly respected veteran of the mat wars in both PRIDE and the UFC. He holds recent victories over Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva, a far higher level of competition than anything Bisping has encountered.

Henderson’s heavier punches and superior wrestling should prevail, but from a value perspective, the “foreign” fighter with the skinnier frame is worth a look.

They’re calling it the “semi-main event” for Saturday’s UFC 100 at Mandalay Bay. Whatever. True fight fans will be reaching for their wallets in anticipation of the Welterweight title bout between champion Georges St-Pierre (–295) and challenger Thiago Alves (+235).

Many insiders are calling this one for Alves – perhaps out of distaste for St-Pierre as much as for Alves’ tremendous leg kicks. At 16-3 lifetime and on a seven-match winning streak in the Octagon, Alves has a ton of betting value Saturday. But his strength is also his weakness. Those leg kicks are also invitations for St-Pierre to put the Brazilian on the mat, and if that happens, those same insiders agree that Alves will be toast.

The champion has won his last five fights in a row since his upset loss to Matt Serra, which St-Pierre avenged last year. His supreme conditioning and size advantage should carry the day.

Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin, eluding his opponent's power for the most part, won a unanimous decision over former Pride title-holder Wanderlei Silva at UFC 99 on Saturday as the UFC added Germany to its collection of host countries.

Franklin won as a -145 favorite, while Silva took the loss as a +115 underdog.

For Silva, it was his third loss in four UFC fights and his fifth in his last six overall. Franklin bounced back after a loss to Dan Henderson at UFC 93 in January.

In the co-main event, unbeaten heavyweight Cain Velasquez showed himself to be a force of nature as he won a unanimous decision over Cheick Kongo.

Croatian heavyweight Mirko Filipovic celebrated his return to the UFC by knocking out England's Mostapha Al-Turk.

In a welterweight match that dripped bad blood in the leadup and real blood at the end, English welterweight Dan Hardy won a split decision over Marcus Davis.

Ready for a little UFC betting on a Saturday?

UFC 99: The Comeback is taking place on June 13 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany.

Wanderlei Silva will be dropping down a weight class to take on Rich Franklin in a battle of two MMA legends.

Franklin, who MMA lines list as a -145 favorite, seems to define the term mixed martial artist, as he possesses the full repertoire of skills needed to compete at the highest level of the sport.

Silva (+115) is a legend in the sport but he has been on a terrible downward slide lately, losing four of his last five fights, including three by devastating knockouts.

Also on the card, Cheick Kongo (+145) will take on Cain Velasquez (-180).

Kongo's ground skills and takedown defense have improved a lot, but with Velasquez he still may find it difficult to stay on his feet.

Lyoto Machida cannot be called dull any longer by fans and media. “The Dragon”, as he is known, won the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light heavyweight title with an electrifying flurry that knocked out Rashad Evans on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena at 3:57 of the second round. Referee Mario Yamasaki had no choice but to stop it.

Evans came in as a +170 underdog while the challenger Machida was the favorite at -210.

Evans proved with his one-punch knockout of Chuck Liddell in September and his TKO of Forrest Griffin in December that he’s powerful enough to win any fight with a single shot.

Machida, though, went for the kill as soon as the first opportunity presented itself.

He is now the new UFC light heavyweight champ and remains unbeaten at 15-0. It was Evans’ first loss in 15 fights. Bodog has all you MMA odds.

It also featured two big names in the Light Heavyweight division fighting for their very UFC lives. But the event turned out to be a disappointment, due to its slow fights and lack of knockouts.

In the main event Anderson Silva defended his Middleweight belt with a five-round unanimous decision over Thales Leites. The champion fought a smart fight against a dangerous opponent, much to the displeasure of the crowd and his fans who have become spoiled watching him destroy opponents in a round and a half over the last few years.

UFC 97 will be known for the day that Chuck Liddell’s career in the Octagon ended after a much more motivated Mauricio Rua knocked him out in the first round. Liddell will have to fight outside the UFC if he wants to continue to compete.
