UCLA. North Carolina. Duke. Kentucky. Indiana. Kansas. Arizona. Connecticut. Michigan. UNLV. Georgetown. Louisville. Michigan State.

These schools represent the best of the best and are all undeniably great programs, but which is the best in Men’s College Basketball?

That honor would have to go to the North Carolina Tar Heels, and yes it helps that they just won another title in April when they destroyed the Michigan State Spartans.

They are second to Kentucky in all-time victories and the first program to reach 100 NCAA Tournament wins.

They have produced Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Sam Perkins, Brad Daugherty, Mitch Kupchak, Walter Davis, Rasheed Wallace, Vince Carter, and many more.

Roy Williams has achieved unparalleled success at North Carolina, even surpassing the legendary Dean Smith.

Despite losing Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson to the NBA, expect the Heels to be a favorite once again next season.

Bracketologists will remember the 2009 NCAA men’s basketball Tournament for getting all the No. 1 seeds, No. 2 seeds and No. 3 seeds into the Sweet 16 for the first time.

Congratulations if you had the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels at the very top of your March Madness bracket – North Carolina (-7.5) got the job done Monday night by stunning the Michigan State Spartans 89-72 to go 6-0 ATS at the Tournament.

How did your earlier picks pan out? The first round had its share of landmines, like VCU (+8.5) nearly upsetting UCLA before losing 65-64, and No. 13 Cleveland State putting an 84-60 hurting on No. 4 Wake Forest (-7.5). We hope you chose wisely with the No. 12 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, who eclipsed No. 5 Illinois (-5.5) 76-72 in the first round and came up a bucket short of Gonzaga (-11) in the second round.

North Carolina is a huge public team but the Big East commands tremendous reverence, which is a plus for Villanova. The Wildcats have already taken out Duke and Pittsburgh as short underdogs.

Villanova is guard-heavy, with a frontcourt that's just 6-7 and 6-8, but don't mistake the Wildcats for a finesse team. They're a gritty, physical squad that locked down on Duke star Gerald Henderson, who was 1-of-14 from the field in the Sweet 16.

The key to beating the Tar Heels is to get big nights out of their guards who can penetrate and challenge Carolina in transition. As improved as the Heels are on defense, they still may struggle to stop aggressive ballhanders from getting to the rim.

Villanova is 5-1 ATS in their last six NCAA Tournament games as an underdog. Get all your NCAA Tournament odds in the Bodog Sportsbook.

They are back in the Final Four and playing like the favorite (+200) to win the national championship.

Getting to Detroit, however, was a little tougher than many experts expected.

The Tar Heels lost key players to injury or suspension. They started 0-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference not long after some speculated the team could go unbeaten. And the pressure for a return trip to the Final Four for the title that got away only grew.

Despite a record of 32-4 on the season, the Tar Heels did not exactly put a lot of money in backers’ pockets. North Carolina is 15-19 ATS but have covered every game in the tournament so far.

Now they will meet Villanova in a national semifinal in Detroit, with the winner advancing to the national championship game to take on the Connecticut-Michigan State winner. Get all your NCAA Tournament odds and college betting lines at the Bodog Sportsbook!

Tyler Hansbrough is the defending Naismith Award winner, the soon-to-be leading career scorer in ACC history and the most recognizable face in all of college basketball. Radford center Artsiom Parakhouski is virtually unknown outside his own campus.

But Parakhouski, a 6-foot-11 junior from Belarus, is averaging a double-double, something that has eluded Hansbrough this season. Radford’s chances of staying competitive depend on how Parakhouski fares in his matchup with Hansbrough.

The Highlanders have won 17 of their past 19 games, earning a tournament spot thanks to their solid defense. If a major-conference foe prefers to grind it out, Radford could make it interesting for a while because of its size.

Ty Lawson’s troublesome toe could keep the speedy point guard sidelined for the opener. Get your NCAA basketball betting in the Bodog Sportsbook.

Even with a loss to the Hokies the Tar Heels can still earn a piece of the title with a victory in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Blue Devils in Chapel Hill. North Carolina would win the title outright with wins in its final two games, but back-to-back losses would make Duke champion.

Virginia Tech, meanwhile, is looking for at least one more victory to boost its tournament credentials. The Hokies have lost four of their last five games amidst a difficult schedule.

To have any shot at an upset, the Hokies will have to find a way to slow down Tyler Hansbrough. Hansbrough is averaging 22.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in five career games versus the Hokies.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are buried deep in the ACC cellar at 1-12.

Saturday the odds are slim that they make any progress to dig out of that spot when they travel to North Carolina to face the Tar Heels. Georgia Tech has only 20 wins in 79 meetings with North Carolina, but six have come in the last 12 games. This will be the only time the two teams, who are at the opposite ends of the standings, will play this season.

The Jackets remained winless in February after their eight-point defeat to Clemson. Their only win of 2009 came on Jan. 31, when they upset Wake Forest 76-74 in Atlanta.

North Carolina will be happy to be back at home since they have struggled from the field in their last two road games. The Tar Heels shot only 37.7 percent at Maryland after shooting just 38.8 percent at Miami six days earlier. The Wolfpack shot 54.1 percent from the floor, and made 18 of 28 attempts in the second half even as North Carolina raced away with the win. That kind of defense may work now, but if the Heels want to win it all they know they have to tighten things up.

Maryland is not a threat to win the ACC title, but the Tar Heels can’t take them lightly looking ahead to Virginia Tech and Duke.

The Terrapins could be motivated by the fact that to finish at .500 in the ACC and keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive they have to win at least three of their remaining conference games. The Tar Heels are only 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in Maryland.
They’ve got a date Wednesday night at Chapel Hill against their archrivals, the North Carolina Tar Heels (23-2 SU, 10-13 ATS). But Lowe’s signature blazer wasn’t enough to get the ‘Pack to the pay window in their last meeting, a 93-76 victory for the Tar Heels (-15).

N.C. State has done much better since then, upsetting Wake Forest and Georgia Tech as part of a 3-1 SU and 3-0 ATS run through the first two weeks of February. The Heels haven’t been as lucrative at the pay window at 1-3 ATS despite winning all four games to move to 9-0 ATS over the past month. They should easily make it 10 in a row on Wednesday; UNC is 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS in its last 10 encounters with the Wolfpack.
