The Stanford Cardinal knocked off one kingpin of the Pac-10 last week in Oregon, but winning at Southern Cal is a whole different animal, and the Trojans are 10.5-point favorites on Bodog's college football odds.

USC simply doesn't lose November games under Pete Caroll: it is 28-0 all-time. And the Trojans have won 47 of their past 48 home games. That one loss, however, came to Stanford in 2007 in one of college football's biggest upsets ever.

Stanford is 2-0 against ranked teams this year but just 1-3 on the road, but those three losses have been just by a combined 22 points. The Cardinal will try to play ball control with RB Toby Gerhart, who ran for a school-record 223 yards last week against the Ducks. While USC freshman QB Matt Barkley gets all the press, it's Stanford freshman Andrew Luck who leads the Pac-10 in passing efficiency.

There are three key USC injury updates to know about before placing those college football bets at Bodog: top Trojans receiver Damian Williams won't play because of an ankle injury. He leads USC with 43 receptions (more than double any other Trojan) and four touchdowns and also has returned two punts for scores. However, tight end Anthony McCoy, Barkley's third-down security blanket and the third-leading receiver on the team, will return after missing two games with an injury. Also back is fullback Stanley Havili after he missed the past two games. USC's offense needs some help, as it has been outgained in the past three games and has scored just 10 points in the last six quarters. Southern Cal is lousy on third downs, converting just 32 percent of them to rank 106th in the nation.

Coming off a thrilling victory over one of the nation’s top teams, the third-ranked USC Trojans begin their quest for an eighth consecutive Pac-10 title Saturday when they visit the Washington Huskies.

The football betting line has not been posted at this time.

USC has defeated Washington during each of its conference title runs, notching seven straight victories since a 27-24 loss in Seattle in 2001, Pete Carroll’s first season in Southern California.

The Huskies, though, have some added incentive with Steve Sarkisian on their sideline. Sarkisian was with USC for each of its seven conference titles, including the last two as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.

With Matt Barkley bruising his right shoulder in last week’s game and not doing any throwing drills in practice Monday or Tuesday, it is still up in the air who the Trojans will start at QB.

Sorry, Florida Gator fans, but there's little argument that Southern Cal is the pre-eminent program in college football today.

All Pete Carroll has done is lead the Trojans to seven consecutive top-four finishes in the Associated Press poll (including two national championships), seven Pac-10 titles in a row (league record) and seven straight BCS bowl berths and minimum 11-win seasons (both NCAA records).

Yet I'm here to tell you there's a very realistic chance all those streaks end in 2009.

USC loses eight starters from a defense that last season led the nation in scoring defense (9.0, the school's best mark since 1967), pass efficiency defense and pass defense. For good measure it finished second in total defense and fifth in rushing defense. After that shocking loss at Oregon State in late September, that unit allowed just two touchdowns in the next six games and pitched three shutouts.

The fact that it's eight starters gone and not nine is actually a very fortunate thing for Carroll as two-time All-American safety Taylor Mays decided to return for his senior season. The Ronnie Lott clone quite possibly will be the best defensive player in college football next fall, but he might need to be. Sure, the Trojans just plug in several more high school All-Americans, but will those guys be ready by Sept. 12 when USC visits Ohio State?

The Trojans do have nine offensive starters back, but not at the most important position: Quarterback. Sophomore Aaron Corp is the starter heading into the fall, replacing Mark Sanchez. Corp beat out former national high school players of the year Matt Barkley and Mitch Mustain because he didn’t turn the ball over much during the spring. And all Corp will be asked to do is manage the game and not make mistakes. With their top four rushers and stud receivers Damian Williams and Ronald Johnson back, the Men of Troy should be fine on that side of the ball.

Even if USC beats the Buckeyes again this season, the Pac-10 schedule is tougher than usual. The Trojans travel to both Oregon and California, easily their two biggest threats in the conference (neither game is in November, the month in which USC is invincible). In fact, the last time USC visited Oregon in 2007 the Ducks won. And Cal always seems to give the Trojans trouble. Shoot, don’t even rule out a possible Notre Dame upset in a mid-October non-conference game in South Bend.

I wouldn’t exactly bet against Southern Cal to win the Pac-10 this season, but those 6/1 odds to win the national title on Bodog seem too generous for a team that could easily lose twice in 2009.

Now is a great time to bet on college football. Get your odds to win the 2010 BCS National Championship at Bodog.com

But his Penn State Nittany Lions have earned four straight bowl appearances, and Paterno, 82 on Sunday, carries a fresh contract extension with him to the Rose Bowl against the USC Trojans (11-1 SU, 6-6 ATS).

Either of these teams would have made a deserving BCS title game opponent. But while Pete Carroll’s Trojans are 10-point favorites (-105) in Pasadena, Paterno’s Lions were rated ahead of USC in the stat-friendly Fremeau Efficiency Index heading into the season finale. PSU was ranked No. 3 in the FBS with the Trojans at No. 5. College Football News also has them ranked very close with USC No. 7 and PSU No. 8.

Live betting is on for this game, which will be shown on ABC starting at 5:00 p.m. Eastern on New Year’s Day.

The USC Trojans will be looking to win their fifth straight game against a Pac-10 rival and improve to 24-0 under Pete Carroll in November on Saturday when they host a winless Washington Huskies team that said this week that coach Tyrone Willingham will step down at the end of the season.

The Trojans are heavy 45-point favorites against the woeful Huskies, who announced Monday that this would be Willingham's last season with the team. The last straw was an embarrassing 33-7 loss to Notre Dame last Saturday, dropping Washington to 0-7 for the first time since it opened 0-9 in 1969.

The Huskies could once again struggle to move the ball against a Trojans defense that is allowing only 215.6 scrimmage yards and 8.1 points per game. USC is 48-26-4 all-time against Washington, including 6-1 under Carroll, and the under is 14-3 in their last 17 home games.

The No. 1 USC Trojans (2-0 SU and ATS) enjoyed the week off. So did the Oregon State Beavers (1-2 SU and ATS). But these Pacific-10 rivals get an early start in Week 5 of the college football season; they face each other Thursday night in Corvallis, with a national audience watching on ESPN.

USC earned the top spot by thumping Virginia 52-7 as a 21-point road favorite. Then the Trojans embarrassed Ohio State 35-3 as a 10.5-point home chalk. That’s the game that really has everyone buzzing about USC. Quarterback Mark Sanchez has seven TD throws and just two interceptions. The defense is stellar.

Oregon State figures to be a tougher test than Virginia, especially after pounding hapless Hawaii (+14) at home, 45-7. They’re 2-1 SU and 3-0 ATS at home versus the Trojans in the Pete Carroll Era. I like “the other” OSU as a giant dog in this matchup.
The Ohio State Buckeyes dragged their remains out of the L.A. Coliseum after suffering a 35-3 beatdown at the hands of USC. It was a totally one-sided fight, like King Kong Bundy bodyslamming Little Beaver. Now they have to face the almighty Trojans again.

Yes, the Troy Trojans are undefeated at 2-0 (1-0 ATS), while Ohio State is 2-1 (0-2 ATS) and down from No. 5 to No. 13 in the rankings. In reality, losing to USC isn’t the end of the world: OSU was a 10.5-point road dog. Playing the “other” Trojans will be a tea party by comparison. The Buckeyes will be heavy favorites for Saturday’s matchup; the Bodog Sportsbook has all your latest college football odds.

Troy is the two-time reigning Sun Belt champion, coming off an 8-3 ATS season that saw the Trojans march into Arkansas and Georgia and leave with the cash. They’ll get paid again this week. All they need to do now is rent some Song Girls.

C'mon, you knew this was coming.

While some diehard USC Trojans fans held out hope that super-frosh O.J. Mayo would return for his sophomore campaign, none were too surprised today when Mayo announced that he'd be leaving the Southern California campus to enter the NBA Draft.

A school spokesperson recently confirmed reports that had been leaking out for most of Wednesday. A 6′5 slashing guard with solid shooting ability, Mayo will likely be a top-10 lottery pick and could eventually challenge Kansas State forward Michael Beasley (should he declare) for the first overall selection.

This past season, Mayo was everything for USC. He paced Trojans in scoring with 20.7 points a game and led them to their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, where they were upset by No. 11 K-State and the aforementioned Beasley.

It looked like it could be the No. 6 USC Trojans' night as Kansas State's superstar forward Michael Beasely got into early foul trouble.

But he got plenty of help from redshirt freshman Bill Walker and the No. 11 Wildcats were able to upset the Trojans 80-67.

Walker put up 22 points and was three of four from three-point land, carrying the Wildcats most of the first half. In the second, Beasely emerged, and finished with 23 points and 11 boards.

Other star freshman O.J. Mayo did his best to keep the Trojans alive, he scored 20 points but was six of 16 from the field.

The Wildcats easily covered as 3.5-point underdogs.
